Maverick 4dr: My cousin just sold one of those in sky blue for $1,500. He originally bought it off an old lady for $1,000, who bought it new. It ran like new for being a '74 with 70k original miles.

It all depends on how responsible you think your son will be. I faced a lot of criticism when I got my car at 16. I kid you not, people were taking bets on when I was going to total my car. Not only were the bets offensive, but they made me want to prove everyone wrong. My first and current car is a 2010 SS.

It made me a car enthusiast, and furthermore the horsepower made me more responsible in a seemingly contradictory type of way. I know what kind of power my car has and that alone prompts me to drive with care. The power is humbling. If you think your son can take on the responsibility, go for it.

You were asking about a black or a white car, a white Camaro w/orange stripes looks great, even though mine is IOM white was my 2nd choice

I got my Camaro when i was 16 but my first car was a 2003 Trailblazer but my sister turned 16 so i got a new car. So far I have no tickets or anything and im at 4500 miles so far had it since June. As long as your kid is responsible it should be fine.

i got my lt when i turned 18. i had driven an 05 xterra with no accidents or tickets for 2 years.
just make sure he watches his blind spots, its also a wide car. i love taking care of my car. yeah the hp get me in some trouble, but im 19, live and learn.
most of my friends my age wouldnt be able to handle a nice care due to the respect they have for their own property and self awareness.
practice parking with him. and backing out, its one of the hardest thiings to do with this car, or any car really. i havent had any accident yet thankfully.
make sure hes a very aware driver. my dad did that with me and i am. alot of my friends arent. but if he cares about the car he will be, i have a friend with an 08 gt and another with a 350z. both fast cars. they take care and pay attention.

I don't:
1. get in trouble.
2. get too bad gas milage right now it is 21.7 in city.

drifting and losing control are different things....

I don't think it is the power that would get her in trouble, but the visibility. I am not talking about the rear quarter visibility for changing lanes, but the visibility over the fenders for parking. I think she would probably hit other cars trying to park. I have been driving over 30 years and I have to be very careful in the parking lot.
I've been driving for 5 years and this thing is a breeze to park IMHO. And this is my first standard shift vehicle, and my first coupe.

A child needs to learn that cars aren't given to them, they are earned. Your son will appreciate a car more and care for it better if the car is purchased and insured with money earned by your son.
An added benefit of starting out with an older car is your son will learn how to work on it and how to maintain it.
Do your son a favor and tell him to consider an older gen 3 or 4 Camaro, he will be a better man in the long run.
Whatever your son gets, make sure it has a stick, it makes you a better and safer driver.
If dad buys a 16 yr old son a new 2012 Camaro, he will probably wreck it. Why? Because the kid considers the car was "free".
