There ya have it.

And, with that, I'm going to merge the threads since this is a repeat topic of the previous Hurst shifter thread.

Thanks!!
So we can appreciate what Johnny said, and the thread says his word is as official as anything else here, but Rodrunner's picture clearly shows the retro white plastic ball. And the website is gmhightechperformance.com. Is that website/picture not reliable?

Personally, I wish the Hurst option came totally old school, with the chrome blade Hurst-engraved handle and the white or black ball embossed with the shift pattern.

I am getting the short throw because it works! I will put my own knob on it!

Old School (factory) Hurst shifter was round stick with Hurst on the side with a smooth chrome ball on console equipped cars OR you got a black ball with the shift pattern on it and a chrome underside if you did not get the console.

Aftermarket setup was flat stick and white ball.

The white ball would look totaly out of place in a new Camaro. I bet some people will still do it.

Not in my 1971 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30. The "Sports Console" package could be ordered with a Hurst Competition Plus 4-speed shifter, and it was a chrome blade handle, not round. The ball was black plastic with the shift pattern embossed in white.

The Camaro could have been different, so you may be correct on that.

For those of us who do want something different, are the shift knobs interchangeable? I want a t-handle.

I'm confused...What exactly am I getting if I order the hurst short throw shifter option? Can I specify if I want the white ball or leather wrapped stock knob?

How difficult is it to change shifters? I like the Hurst shifter, but did not order it with the car because I want to get a feel for the stock shifter first.

easy to change^^ i have been reading up on it...

now my question is: in comparison to say the 350z or vette or g8 gxp.. which one would you say is most like the hurst short throw, in distance of the throw? im trying to decide if i should add this or not.

how easy it is to change is yet to be known. It wasn't bad on a fbody and it was a pain in the as on a goat.

the mustang hurst shifter is 50% shorter in throw and a bit taller... so there's at least a referance.

and i've got a question, how much harder is it to shift with these shifters? i understand the throw is being cut in half so the effort to move it would be double if the underpinnings stayed the same but with a bit of height the leverage would be greater so the effort would be reduced to 50% more effort.

just wondering, i dont see it being an issue for me as i've got large arms but good to know none the less from you who have had experience.

I got my 16 year old Son a Hurst short throw shifter for his Mustang GT. It is harder to shift due to the shorter throw, but it is a lot funner to use than the stock shifter. We had the white ball on it and it just did not look right. I got him a T-handle and we both like it better. I would not think it is much if any shorter, but I would say 25% less throw is a good estimate. The car needs to be cleaned, but below are a few pictures of the T-handle shifter. I ordered my SS/RS with the Hurst as well.
