Sounds like you're in the same boat I am. I drive a good chunk over 1000 miles per month, just did some math, around 50 miles per day. I'm hoping this second gear replacement works for me, because I really do love my car, but at the same time I refuse to drive something broken....I know that sounds harsh, but when the tech rides with you and hears the grind says "wow that's not supposed to happen", you know something's wrong....

i'm thinkin' the "general" maybe approved this tranny because of possible cost issues...what IS puzzling,is that this company builds trannies for the mazda miata!..i realize the mazda would have a"different" type of tranny in it as opposed to the "camaro",however the "quality" should STILL be there!..in hindsight, one can ASSUME" the bean counters played a role in picking this particular transmission!..just sayin!

This is the part that puzzles me as well. For them to let the bean counters **** with something as important as a transmission in their brand new CAMARO is just retarded.

Thumbs down

3-2 bind/grind

2-3 intermittent grind ....just hit 1100 miles. Did it since 400

tonight I tried to make a quick pass acceleration onto traffice due to a sloooowwww moving truck and a short entrance ramp. Revved up from 3rd gear, and dropped to 2nd and it wouldnt go in at around 4k without a slight "Nudge". IDK if this is normal, but its got me concerned since its always had a tick from the start.

Mine is with automatic v8 (300Km) grind noise from 1st to 2nd gear from a cold start only...

The funny thing is that V6 automatic owners have the same issue as well and they say its normal ...

Cool dude glad to hear it.. You are one of the lucky ones on this thread.
If GM actually properly backed their cars I would not be so upset with them.

I am waiting for more than a month now to get mine fixed. Bought a Camry yesterday and as soon as they fix my Camaro .... I am so selling it.... Anyone want to buy a Camaro ? I'll give you a killer deal.

Yeah I know it will suck driving a Camry for two years but I would like a car that is reliable.

Toyotas are not reliable like they used to be in the late 90's.

The new Camrys are JUNK. They have tons of problems, not to mention all the recalls. They also chew up catalytic converters like most cars go through brake pads.

You have ONE problem with your Camaro, the trans. Expect a lot more with the Camry.

Easy dude, yes just 'one' problem but the tranny is very key to the total works...
I have thought about what I would do with a bad Camaro M tranny. I would give GM and a couple of different dealers a shot at it. If not fixed and I really liked the Camaro I'm driving, I would pay for a fix (private shop not GM), new tranny/clutch whatever. That would cost but cost less than selling the C and buying something else.

Yes Gm should fix it but it appears hit or miss. Life is to short to suffer a year or so beating on GM...fix it or sell it...as the Camry dude is doing...

Wow. Just read the beginning and end of this thread. I don't like the M6 in my car, but it is no where near as bad as some of yours! I just hate the hard effort and (for lack of a better word) bind going into 2nd (and sometimes 3rd). I've never had a grind, pop-out or missed shift. Have 21,000 miles now.

So, are some of these transmissions nice and smooth on the 1-2 and 2-3? I have just assumed they are all as clunky as mine feels. I did test drive one before I ordered my car in 2009, but I don't remember how that one felt.

It's interesting that I get an email response to this thread as the problem happens to me again. It had been a while since the massive grind reared it's ugly head. Once again I was inclined to blame my shifting, but I'm just not sure because I don't seem to be able to duplicate the problem. Happened ok the 1-2 shift pulling out onto a main road, I gave it the beans and... Yeah... Couldn't get the tranny into first at the next light. I had to start from a dead stop in second gear. After another few minutes I was able to force it into gear and had to pull it back out so hard that it popped right into second. It's infuriating to try to have fun in your sports car and it fail miserably...

Hi Wesman its a 99 Camry that I bought dirt cheap and I know the guy who sold it so I know its a good car. Besides I doubt it will die in the next couple of months.
I just need a second car while I sell the "Lemon".

Had the same issue dude. Documented it on video to show GM, went to third party transmission specials got their diagnoses.. GM stiled ignored me. Finally they did some work on second gear and syncro. Then the car started to pop out of second gear on its own..GM blamed me of course. BTW I have it on video you will see about half way through the video is starting to pop out.. My advice to you sell the dam thing like am doing.. Apparently the "fixed it properly" this time looool, I just hope I reach a dealership so that I can sell the lemon... 11 months of hell..
