On the road flat fix

What do you guys do when you're on the road and have a flat? I plan on getting a better compressor than what comes with the car. I was wondering what jack to use. Harbor Freight 1 1/2 ton racing jack? Its light weight. Or just get a scissor jack and a Dr. Roc adapter to use with a rachet or a 12volt impact? I don't want to use the slime. I am gonna plug if I ever have too.

I bought a plug kit, the OEM compressor will air the tire up just fine. I plan on just rolling the tire over to where I can remove the offending item and put the plug in it and air the tire back up.

But what if it's sidewall damage from a pothole? I've had that happened to me about two years ago :( luckily I was about two miles from home so I just limped the car super slow back to the house.

I'm just about to order a Camaro - they all come with an oem compressor? Is it in the trunk?

No, if it is a regular SS they come with run flat tires. Only the 1LE models get the compressor and slime.

I think the Camaro SS gets roadside assistance as well for a non-repairable flat. Also most of the run flat tires and I know Continental and Michelin both tow up to 150 miles due to a flat.

Interesting. I'm ordering a V6 1LE. I wonder if it will come with the compressor and the slime.

I had RF tires on my current car, and switched out to regular tires once the old ones wore out. The car's ride quality improved for sure with the regular tires. I was planning to do something similar with the 1LE.

TJay74. How is there enough room to remove object and install plug? Surely you are jacking car up? What jack do you use?

I will just roll the car over until the object is in a place where I can remove it, then install the plug. I've done it that way before on a Vette and it worked just fine.

I have no intentions of carrying a jack in the trunk.

That's what I do on my Volt and plan to do with this car. A plug kit and rubber cement is only a few bucks and will solve most of your problems or at least let you limp home. I just don't feel like spending the cash and extra weight on a spare and jack.

This is also what I am doing. Plug kit, a piece of chalk, gloves, pliers are all in the trunk just in case.

As soon as I ditched the run flats, I started to carry a plug kit. I have almost all the pieces needed to build a small (20oz.) CO2 tank to mount in the trunk to refill once I plug the tire. If it's a bad blowout, I can always call roadside assistance under my warrantee or my insurance.

That stuff wreaks havoc with the TPMS sensors. It also leaves a nasty film on the inside of the wheel and tire.

The only two flats I've experienced were both on the shoulder where the inflator sealant came out and wouldn't seal. I would imagine fix a flat doing the same. Spend the two bucks and throw a cheapo plug kit in your car for another option. It's too light and cheap not to have one in every ride you own.
