Procharger or Vortec Centrifugal SC build
Ok, I'm fairly new to this scene. I've been doing a TON of reading about my options. At first I wanted to do a Twin Turbo build... Now I want to do a Centrifugal SC build.
I recently paid off my '10 Camaro 2SS/RS M6 a couple months ago. So now I decided it's time to start adding power. Here's what I have so far (not yet installed): ARH 2" Headers catted midpipes to rear axle FAST 102mm Intake Nick Williams 102mm Throttle Body Catch can 160* Thermostat My plan is to install everything all at one time, most of which I'll do myself. I've worked mainly on tracked and heavy wheeled vehicles for the past 10 years so majority of it's fairly simple. However tuning and configuring engine components are not my forte. For the most of my career I've been just a parts changer LOL. I currently am upgrading OshKosh MATV's in Afghanistan. We tear down, cut, and drill, install upgraded chassis and suspension components, reinstall air tanks, better seats and body armor. So I've been contemplating on my engine build for either a Procharger or Vortec. I definitely want to upgrade my heads and rotating assembly. I was looking at the PRC 260cc and the PRC 255cc heads offered by Texas-Speed. I haven't exactly decided whether I want to stroke it or not. But I'm definitely going with forged internals for longevity. Any suggestions on rotating assembly and head combo with an optimum Compression Ratio to possibly add a Procharger or Vortec later? I wonder if I could keep my CR around 10.5:1 and run a fair amount of boost or would it be best to go down to 9.5:1. Thanks! I'm open to any suggestions. |

What power level are you looking for? You can forge your stock block or go with a ERL block and use your stock one for a core charge. I personally am going with a ERL 6 bolt 427 and then max my D1SC and move on to a F1R.
In your case I would definitely go with a Procharger but other questions need to be answered before giving you answers. Callie's crank and rods, diamond pistons are a good start and keeping the compression around 9.8-10.2.

Oh, I thought you meant 1300 for a complete forged iron engine if you trade them your ls3.

Personally I'm going to forge the ls3, I like the aluminum block. Still wondering what your hp/tq goals are OP. I'd go with the vortech but until they come out with their new head unit, procharger has the market on 1500+ hp builds. |

Next question is whether I should get a 416/418 Stroker kit or keep it the same with forged internals? Then the biggest question is which heads should I run? If I'm to keep the compression around 9.8-10.2 then I could get -22.5cc Diamond pistons, Callies Dragonslayer 4.000 Crank, and either Callies Compstar I beam or Ultra Billet 6.125 Rods all mated up using 260cc PRC heads with 62cc combustion chambers and .040 head gasket. That'll give me right around 9.9:1 CR, not sure how much deck height will affect the CR, not sure where the pistons will sit. Or I could choose -15cc Wiseco pistons and same heads with 68cc combustion chambers. That would get me around 10.1:1. Now my question is this, would it be better to get heads with smaller combustion chambers or not? Which setup would be better for a Centri? I haven't even heard about the ECS kit until now. Quite impressive and cheaper! I think I found a winner. Good looking out! Last edited by *_ERIC_*; 12-09-2012 at 01:25 PM. |
