I kinda consider the C5/C6 exhaust to be 'off-centre' rather than 'centre'. The C7? Definitely a 'centre exit', and one of the things I don't like about it. I didn't really care one way or the other on the C5/C6

Made sense to switch 'normal' headlights, but I would have liked to see them stick with round tail lights. They could have been modernized in any number of ways without needing to abandon their traditional shape.

I’m pretty sure a change in the laws made them switch to fixed headlights.

I was told by a GM exec it was Europe with flash to pass that frustrated sales on the continent. It was a constant gripe with the Corvette.

true, but it was an easy fix... equip them all with fogs. that's what flashes if the headlights're down after they added that feature on C5s (maybe late-C4s... not sure). fogs can also be easily added to the Z06s; people do it all the time using factory harnesses.

I think also more of a function of the development and implementation of automatic headlights. Add that many States and localities require the use of headlights when raining. While perhaps not an overwhelming engineering task, it was probably just simpler and cheaper to ditch the pop ups. Their is also the aero advantage of the fixed headlight.

Europe has some funny laws when it comes to autos. The irregular design of the C7 front bumper has something to due with a regulation if you hit a pedestrian.
Also the ZR1 will NOT be sold in Europe because of a regulation dealing with the height of a hood extrusion, the super charger being above the plane of the hood. Has something to do with if a pedestrian is hit and thrown on the hood they could receive additional injuries.

Correct, near as I can tell.

Europe has a 'pedestrian impact' crash standard of some sort. And as a result, you need a certain amount of clearance from your hood to your engine (including intake/supercharger). This can be accomplished with either a large(ish) air gap between the hood & intake/supercharger OR by installing fancy hood-airbags to cushion the impact. There isn't really much of a 3rd option. So, for a pretty low volume car you can elect to do neither & simply not sell in Europe, because the cost of compliance is expected to exceed the revenue created by selling there.

If Cadillac won't share the 4.2TT then what's stopping Chevrolet from sticking an LT1 or another DOHC TT V8 in a midengined car?

i dunno if the 4.2L version will be found in a Vette, but in some form or another i bet the new mid-engined Corvette will have a DOHC V8 providing power. it's the next logical step, and i think there is a rumored 5.5L V8 in the works.

i agree that Cadillac will get some form of a mid-engined halo car due to the DPi program. but to say that the prototypes we have seen in pictures are strictly Cadillacs is a bit of a reach. C7 platform is at its limit powerwise and the Caddy DPi's can't run in any European series (ELMS and WEC).

so i think we will see both a mid-engined Corvette and a mid-engined Cadillac.

The CAD files we saw were not a hot v set up. There would be no reason to stick the 4.2 in the Corvette anyways.
