P1682, "Engine power reduced", won't start
Hello there. I'm writing from a gas station on the highway, waiting for the tow truck to show up...
I was driving when suddenly the engine lost power and died. "Engine power reduced" came up on the screen. I read the DTCs - there were several of them, I stupidly cleared them. Tried to start the engine again - no luck. P1682 comes up. Tried to disconnect battery for 5 mins - no luck Checked all fuses - they're fine Searched forum - no luck. Some say ignition switch, others say circuit. Anybody had the same problem? Thank you! |

These are the possible causes:
- Faulty ignition switch - Ignition Switch harness is open or shorted - Ignition Switch circuit poor electrical connection - Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) |

31B, thank you. This is exactly what I was thinking while reading about this problem. I hear that Cobalts get this issue a lot.
But 2010-up Camaros send all ignition info from the key (switch) using the CAN bus, right? If so, what could possibly go wrong with the ignition switch? After all, there're no power cables there. And if the switch is the problem, can anybody give me a part # so I can order one? |

You need to add one more possible cause of this nasty problem:
- Faulty connector of the K26 - relay - marked as IGN/TRN in the engine fuse compartment. Case closed. Apropos: Mr. William R, thank you for your concern. It would be nice if you forward this issue to management or quality control. You can't have a corroded faulty relay connector on a 3 yr old car... Just leaves bad impression, you know... |
