You have to remember there is a 4 cyl coming. That would be lighter than the others. Could be where the 200 plus pounds come from. I work for a Chevy dealer and have access to some of the specs. I'll find out what I can tomorrow and let you guys know

The CTS-V coupe was a Camaro chassis, motor, transmission, blah blah blah blah interior blah blah etc... They were and are the same car except for some designer looks and body panels. It was the same with the Firebird for years too....outside looks mostly werent the same...but underneath...they were... The ATS coupe is the exact car to expect when the new Camaro debuts for the weights. I'll wager most of the specs will be very similar in fact... with the exception of the V8 model, as I expect that will be about 250lbs heavier than the 3450lbs of the ATS....which still puts us around 3700lbs. The outgoing 2015 SS Camaro weighs 3900lbs....you're telling me there's no way GM can trim 200lbs from that car? Are you kidding me?

Better rims (smaller/lighter) would cut 50 pounds on their own. 5th generation RS wheels and tires are 60#'s each. Get a good set of 18's on it and that drops to 40-45#'s each. Little cuts here and there will get the 200# reduction.
That said, there is no way in hell the stock 6th Gen runs faster than 12.5 in the 1/4. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

general rule of thumb, 100lbs is about .1 second increase in a 1/4 mile run. so if the car is at least 200lbs lighter, you can guess the car will be at least .2 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile. add the fact that the car has more hp/tq, and you can probably guess it's going to be more than .2 seconds faster. if I were to guess, i'd say the new Camaro will be around .25-.35 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile.

Consistent 12.7 with drivers who have a general idea of how to launch/shift correctly.
12.3 with driver mod.

How is it that this thread popped up before a "Predict the 455 hp 2016 Camaro SS Laguna Seca and VIR lap times" thread?

Mags will see 12.3-12.4 at 115-116 for autos. 12.1 to 12.2 @ 116-117 will be a common great time with hero runs in the 11s.
The ls3 was never in a auto camaro, so we have a gain of 56hp, better torque curve, 200+ less lbs and a lightning fast 8 speed over the 5th gen autos that ran 12.9-13.0. |
