Factory Freak?
I get asked this at least once a week on this forum, so I'd like to make a thread about it to see what you guys think. Everybody thinks I made up my numbers or have more done than I say. My 2015 1LE made 442 rwhp and 431 rwtq on a conservative Mustang Dyno. My only mods are Stainless Power 1 7/8 " long tube headers, cat-less mid pipes, CAI intake, and a dyno tune. When I took my car to get my parts installed and tuned, I asked my tuner what he though it'd make and he said probably around 405-415rwhp, because his dyno is known for giving low numbers. When I go pick it up the next day he says you won't believe how much it made, and when he told me I didn't believe him at first. He said he pulled my car off the dyno and put on his truck and another car that he knows the numbers on and they put out the exact same. He had no explanation except that I got an exceptional engine.
This past Saturday the same shop hosted a Dyno Day, and wasn't planning on dynoing my car because it was just tuned back in December and knew what it made. After a few cars had gone up, and were disappointed by their numbers I decided to re-dyno my car to see if it was just fluke back when it was tuned. Sure enough it surprised me again, for being 40 (88 degrees) degrees warmer outside than what it was back in December. I put down 437 rwhp and 428 rwtq. Everyone was saying I have a mild cam or polished heads, and coming up with every excuse they could to justify the numbers. Just to compare numbers with other cars here are a few examples of what they put down: 2015 Stingray 7-speed (stock) - 403 rwhp 2014 5.0 Mustang 6-speed manual(longtube headers, borla catback, cobra-jet intake, cai, tune) - 418rwhp 2013 Mustang 5.0 automatic (long tube headers, cai, dyno tune) -378rwhp 2006 6.0 GTO 6-speed (full bolt ons, cam, heads and tune) - 425 rwhp 2012 Camaro SS automatic (long tubes, cai, hand held tune) - 376 rwhp 2006 LS2 Corvette automatic (full bolt ons, cam, dyno tune) -391rwhp 2012 ZL1 automatic (long tubes, cai and tune) -460 rwhp 2012 Corvette GS automatic (2.9L Whipple, catback, cai, and tune) 520rwhp I was just curious if anybody else has received high numbers in their bolt on cars, especially their 1LEs. Lastly, I'll be going in next week for a cam swap (low 230 lift), what numbers should I expect?

I have a 2012 SS LS3. I have long tube headers, Ported TB, and a CAI. Before the tune my car put down 430HP on a DynoJet. The tune only added 7HP. The people tuning the car said every once in awhile they see a car with basic bolt-ons that put down good numbers.

1LE owners know the 1LE is a special separate model of Camaro, this just proves it.
Naw, just kidding on that. I'd say you got an extraordinary car! Someone should tear down the motor to find out what's different!

Factory Freak?
I'm getting 437/424 with shorty headers, mid pipes, CAI and a tune.

It's the Mustang dyno. Go check it on a dyno jet somewhere.

When the LS3 first came out, there was a post on the Corvette Forum with someone only putting on longtube headers and a X-pipe with a dyno tune and it gained roughly 30-40hp, I don't remember what the stock dyno was on the car though. Given that you have a CAI also and that GM always underrates their engines, Id say that's probably about right. The new LT1 is really underrated also. Have to love how GM underrates their cars.

Some Dyno's are most generous than others with the numbers but I'd gather you boys broke your Camaro's in proper.

So how DID you do your break in damian559? Hard break in or nice and easy like the manual says? I bet he broke it in hard.

I think a mustang dyno shows lower than a dynojet.

I've also heard Mustang Dyno's read more optimistic than Dynojet.
Stock LS3 with open NPP + Air Raid Intake = I pulled 388 hp on a Dynojet which seemed reasonable at the time.
