Talking Exhaust Set with Quad Tips Question

Have my mind set on the MRT V2.0 exhaust for my 2010 V6. I want to install the ZL1 Rear Diffuser which requires a quad tip exhaust or else it looks terrible. Wondering if anybody has had experience buying a regular dual exhaust kit and converting it to the quad tip exhaust, specifically the MRT V2.0?

Thanks

I have seen people converting the MRT V2 to quad tips. No issue at all.

I have the MRT V1, my muffler shop cut the axle back, pushed it a little bit more in to have the exhaust pipes align in the center, in order to be able to weld the quad tips.

My pics will give u a better idea.

Hope it helps!

PS: However, I don't recommend going this route as you will end up spending a lot of money... I suggest you to get directly a used set of the NPP exhaust.. The NPP is a very great exhaust, is deep, throaty, raw and pretty loud too. It is sell around $400-600 only.

With the MRT, you will be spending $120 to get the quad tips, $120 for labor to install the quad tips, $600 to buy the MRT, $100 to install the MRT. Moreover, the drone might annoys you and you will be spending another money for either the resonated x pipe or a set of j pipes.

Anyway, I regret buying the MRT V1 instead of the NPP...

That does look good Hzis, but you're right, much more expensive than a used NPP.

And you can save a lot of time and money with a 1LE diffuser ($100 at your dealer). It snaps right in place and nicely accommodates the quad tips.

I dont think you can install quad tips on stock V6 exhaust. If you get the MRT V2 you can do it just fine. Just the diffuser and tips is all you need with MRT. You will need a experienced muffler shop to correctly align it all if you cannot do it

Alright so I ordered the MRT V2.0 and a Vararam CAI. I am trying to find the ZL1 rear diffuser. Do you guys know of someone or a link that is preferred by people on here?

And yes I will be taking it to a shop.

*first post and new to the page, I really appreciate the help.

I'm at work, so can't look for that now, but if you go to the DIY section and search you will find a "how to".

Be aware the ZL1 diffuser requires multiple parts, drilling/cutting, etc... and is much more expensive that swapping a 1LE diffuser for the standard OE diffuser.

No need to get the ZL1 diffuser, just get the regular dual mode diffuser.

I saw a sale of the two together on eBay, the quad tips and diffuser for around $200.

So I could throw on the 1LE wth quad tips no problem? Or as Hzis said, the quad mode diffuser no problem. Just a simple swap is my understanding for the 1LE diffuser.

If I were to decide to change to the ZL1 later after using the 1LE, would that require a lot of tampering with the exhaust or simply applying the ZL1 diffuser with all its extra parts and pieces.

Correct- try the 1LE (NPP) diffuser and if you don't like it, switch. The exhaust will still be correctly aligned.

Here's a great "how to" on diffuser removal and then just snap your new diffuser in it's place- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153221

BTW- you can go ahead and put the new diffuser on with your stock or existing mufflers in place (you'll just have a larger, off center hole than necessary). This makes it much easier for your shop to see where they need to put the quad tips to center (and level!) them up.

Here, this is all you need to do to get the quad tips look on your car right.

So you first buy and install either the NPP or ZL1 diffuser.
Side note for model year 2010-2013: I personally recommend the NPP if you are not that handy, since it is a simply swap installation compared to the ZL1. The ZL1 requires modifications to be installed on your car.

Then you buy the MRT V2 exhaust, plus a set of inlet 2.5 inches and either 3, 3.5 or 4 inches outlet quad tips. Depending on your taste. I went with 4".

Have the muffler shop, cut your old axle back, weld the MRT exhaust on; and then have them cut the exhaust tips from the MRT, and weld the new quad tips.

DONE.
