Have you ever messed around with a car stereo that has a USB port?

My sister bought a Chevy Aveo and put in a CD player with mp3 playback and a USB port on the front. I grabbed my flash drive that had everything on it from .pdf files to .jpegs, and I copied one mp3 to it... Funkadelic - "Stuffs & Things".

I took it out to her car and plugged it right into the USB port. Took a second or two to be recognized... but it immediately found that one mp3 that I copied to the USB flash drive.

HAHAHAHA.. Naw never messed with a car that had a USB, sounds pretty cool though. The external HD doesn't sound like a bad idea either, they make decent sizes that have a lot of storage that i'm sure you could get to fit in the center console.

Oh well, looks like I'll make another purchase off of newegg.com

If you look at their lineup, the Essentials line includes a whole bunch software that you'll never use when it's connected to the Camaro. Save yourself some $$$ and get this for much cheaper. The 400GB drive will hold about 100,000 MP3's and only run you $70.

Even if it has software on the HDD when you get it, you can always just reformat it before you start dumping your music on it...

I know that, I'm just saying you're paying more for the software when you're not going to use it at all! There's a cheaper version that doesn't include software on it.

Oh, yeah, the western digital site didn't have any prices on it so I wasn't aware there was much of a price difference.

Yes to all. It'll index the drive and give you browsing by artist/album/etc. or you can browse the folders. It will also support playlists if you save them in a standard format.

This is my thought on what I may do. However with some of the roads here, I'd be super afraid of screwing up the HD because of the vibration caused by bumpy roads. That said, I think I'll go buy a 64GB USB drive or wait and see if they come out with a 128GB USB drive soon.

Flash memory FTW.

You can buy a solid state hard drive. they are very pricy right now though.

You can get a 128 GB SSD for just over $200 these days, some will even plug right in via USB with no extra adapter. Not cheap by any means but not they really aren't terribly expensive IMO.

You could always get a 20GB (or bigger) solid state flash drive that fits in your wallet... and you'd only have to change the music every couple months.
