Tunnel Brace question..........

Does the Tunnel brace really have an important function? I just installed an exhaust system and saw the brace, it is really thin. I ordered one from Barton industries, but I just wanted to know if it is really important to have...

If I run without it for a little bit, would it do any damage? My exhaust seems to bang it and makes a really nasty noise..

I know I can put washers to lower it and give the exhaust some more clearance, but what do you guys think?

It's only real purpose is to reinforce the tunnel at the driveshaft carrier bearing location. This area is susceptible to harmonics and vibrations from the driveshaft. A few days without it is not going to matter.

I bought the tunnel brace from g-townmach - http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62586

Clearly better than the OE and I liked its design over the BMR version.

i ran a couple of weeks without it on waiting on a new one to come in, because my 3" exhaust rubbed the stock one.

kept it under 50 when turning at intersections

It is important, we have designed a Brace that allows ample clearance from your exhaust.

Check it out and let me know what you think:
