Stolen Camaro leads high speed chase

Thurston Co. Sheriff's Dept. says this Camaro led police on a chase through Thurston and Lewis counties - at speeds up to 150 miles per hour! It was stolen from the Hertz rental area at SeaTac, crashed near Napavine.

Why didn't they just disable it via OnStar? Does the service have to be active for police to request the signal to be sent?
