Also, you don't always have to pull the motor to install a cam. on a 4th gen, you just need to move/pull the radiator to get the cam in. of course that may be different on the 5th gen, but who knows....

this should give you a good idea of what is involved with a cam swap....

not quite true. when properly built, the 572 should be give numbers measured in gallons per mile. anything better and you're not trying hard enough.

It shouldn'e disable it if you don't need to change out the lifters. AFM engines have a special two piece lifter that allows the valve to be disabled when it's not needed.

Funny thing is that depending on the bike it'll be ultimately faster than the Camaro anyway xD

The lifters can only absorb a limited amount of lift (expect the stock cam to use it all). So if you install a higher lift cam the valves will still open a little in deact mode. The car will run poorly, throw codes and probably go into a "limp-home" mode.

I bet someone will offer a (higher ratio) rocker and cam kit that would let you increase valve lift without exceding the limits of the deact lifters (so you can keep AFM).

But near term you will probably have to choose either a big cam or AFM.

I don't remember reading this thought (so sorry) but I wonder about high tension valve springs and AFM...

Sadly, AFM. I'm in college and live off Ramen Noodles. But its ALLLL worth it cuz I'll have a V8 Muscle Car w/ awesome power and mileage

So much ignorance on this forum, not trying to knock you, but this a camaro forum, I mean just what in the hell do you guys talk about!? First GM will not have factory cam varieties available, their performance division has long since been selling performance parts such as camshafts. Also cams are not the first step in modding, it's an advanced mod, after bolt ons. There's not as much benefit in changing the engines breathing characteristics if it's choked up by intake/exhaust restrictions in the first place.

I'm calling BS all over that claim. It would be a feat to make that much power on a full bolt factory freak with a set of AFR heads, a monster cam and a miraculous tune.
