Which transmission will the L99 have?

anyone know which transmission the L99 will have?

I'm interested in the lockup %, I normally dont like auto's, but the latest offerings I've tested are brilliant

BMW uses a ZF 6 speed in the 135i and 335i, and it's like driving a manual, it stays locked up all the time, completely different than the transmission in the 128i/328i which is a GM transmission and does not lock up like the ZF does.

On the ZF when you let off the gas at speed, it behaves just like a manual, it does not drop the rpm, it stays where it's at, so there's none of that lurching when you get back on the gas, the RPM is locked to the speed, it operates at 99% locked up bypassing the torque converter, I'm not sure what the exact percent is, but it's very high, it's almost as good as the new dual clutch aka DCT in the M3

it also does double gear downshifts, and rev matching downshifts, it's really a joy to drive

so anyone know what transmission the L99 will have, and if it will have nearly 100 % lockup like the newest ZF's have?

looks like that's in a few GM products already

does the G8 use that one too? I cant remember how it shifted when I drove it, it was unremarkable though, I don't think it had the double gear drop down

It's rev-matching, and fully-controllable. This transmission is the automatic used in the Corvette. But I don't believe it's locked up 99% of the time...

some people are saying the 6l80 will never live long behind 500+hp engines,, i say b.s., the cadillac cts-v is over 500hp and comes stock with the 6l80 trans and has 100,000 mile powertrain warranty

Are you sure it's rev-matching? I remember reading an article about the Corvette and they said it was not rev-matching.

On the G8, and going to be employed on the Camaro...
I could have sworn GM had their own literature talking about it too, but I couldn't find it.:(

When you downshift, the computer blips the throttle revving up the engine so it's speed is matched to the gear your shifting into.

If it is like the G8GT, when you are in manual mode, the convertor is locked. And, the stock convertor has a twin lock up disc which will support quite a bit of power locked.

I still don't understand where the rev matching comes into play or how to do it on the automatic when you switch it to tap-shift mode. Is it down-shifting around a corner to gain speed? Can you explain certain situations where this is used and how to use the feature and what it would be like without it. Thanks

Have you ever done heel-toe downshifting on a manual? Its a lot like that and serves the exact same purpose.
