Hey Spur, same thing here as the other thread. First thing I would have done was get that thing out of the road and pulled the stick.

Ignoring gauges and relying on idiot lights is how I grenaded the engine in my old Astrovan. Gauge was reading near 0 psi and being an idiot, I figured...must be the sending unit. I was wrong. It was a total pump failure.

In a car like this, I would not be taking chances. V6 or V8, the engines are just too damned expensive for a stupid mistake.

Like your mechanic said, probably a sending unit, but if this ever happens again DO NOT DRIVE IT. Its better to play it safe and have it towed with the motor intact, vs. having it towed with pieces of the motor lying on the ground.

100% agreed. Just not worth the risk.

I am having low oil issues and code p0521. I checked oil level and it was fine. I also replaced the oil pressure sensor with a brand new one and still have the same issues of low oil pressure and the code being thrown.

With the DOD delete and VVT off, is the pressure relief valve in the oil pan a safe option to try and plug?

Car is supercharged and stock bottom end. Have a race in two weeks and this is the first this issue has come up. Car has roughly 54k on it for reference. Use Amsoil for oil.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

First thing I would do is get a mechanical gauge on it. This is the one that I used, worked great.

Yes sir. I was going to do that as well, but my teenager decided he wanted to play on my tool box and lost my fittings to my cornwell kit. Surprisingly, but one local auto store has one in stock either so I just swapped the sensor out anyway hoping for a positive result. 🤦🏼*♂️

Had the same issue recently and engine was running fine and if I wiggled the wires going to the sending/switch sensor it would go to 70 and then back down to 0, but not really reproducible. Sure enough replacement with a new one fixed it all and it was also clear the original wasn't reading correctly when it did work. Original lasted 170k, doesn't owe me a dime but seems like a common failure for the LFX, maybe LLT?

Got the replacement part at Advance Auto Parts and it was an AC Delco. You'll need a deep 27MM socket, preferably thin wall. I got mine at Harbor Freight for really short money and I now have a 27MM socket I guess (rather than go with the "Oil Sending Unit Socket" you see for sale along with these. It's probably better for the mission but I did just fine in that tight space after removing the A/C compressor support bracket (easy, but you'll need a torx too).
