Painted stripes question - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

With painted stripes, do they clear coat only the stripes or the area (hood, roof, trunk, etc)

If it's just the stripes, wouldn't that create some sort of ridge?

Just wondering.

Most paint shops prep the whole area near where the stripes will be painted. After painting, the whole part/area is clear-coated. Often with several coats, with prep in between each coat.

There is no point in just clearing over the stripes. The idea of the clearcoat is to make it all level and smooth with no edges.

Thats what I thought. My only concern would be, if the hood has addition clear, would it effect the over all shine of the car?

Yes, more clear means more protection and shine. Unless it's cheap clear!

had mine done, they do the job right, they will wet sand the clear then mask and paint the stripes then re-clear the entire panel. It will look factory as far as the shine goes. Here are some shots of my car.

Had mine done and they have to redo it. Some black bled over on the red and they CLEARED it anyways. Going back in this week.
