Our First NEC5 Event - Check this out!

Ladies and gentlemen of New England Camaro5.com. We’ve got something in the works here folks! Dan, AKA 600hp-lpe pitched a great idea to me the other day, and if we get some positive feedback, we’ll pull the trigger and make it happen. Actually, we are already getting this together, so I guess the trigger’s already been pulled.

This will be the first NEC5 event! Save the date – Sunday, September 26 from 7a.m. to around 5:30 p.m.!!!

As some of your are aware, 600hp-lpe has one of the more advanced modified Gen5 Camaros. He is involved with New England Region of the Sports Car Club of America. Their big draw is autocross. Unlike the quarter mile drag, which is all out, foot to the floor straight line racing, autocross is done on a flat paved surface (not dirt – that’s bikes and motorcross), with slaloms, sweeping curves, and tight corners – and cones . The track is about 1.5miles long and it is the runway on the old airfield in Devens, MA. Each car competes against the others in a timed event, but one at a time – yours will be the only car on the track during a run.

September 26th is one of the SCCA SOLOII Sanctioned events, and the perfect time for us C5 members to get together for a little friendly competition: we will have trophies for a judged car show, and also for the best NEC5 race times. Make no mistake, the awards will be just for Camaro5.com members. We will have our own mini-event during the NER event and we’ll get to use the track. It is a great opportunity for some sanctioned racing in our cars, against our friends, as well as showing off our cars to other racers. As our first event, it’s a step towards sponsoring even more events in the future.

There will be some costs involved. Entry for C5 members will be $10. This will cover the cost of the trophies (6 total) and custom dash plaques! What could be better? The car show will be judged by non-partial members of NER-SCCA.

600hp-lpe has already stated that he will not “enter” his car in the car show (as enough SCCA members know his car), nor will any of us be going up against him in the race in order to keep things fair and equal, unless we get enough highly modified entries, that is, who will want to compete against him - then we’ll open a separate modified category.

If you want to race, there is a $50 entry fee for pre-registered ($65.00 day of the event) for that as well, which goes to SCCA. If you stay all day, you’ll get at least 5 runs in. At $10 a run, that’s a damn good deal! If you do not race, you only pay the show fee.

Safety equipment is simple. All you need is a helmet (and seat belts, but that’s easy), and you won’t even need to buy a helmet as there are loaners available. Bringing a roll of painter’s tape is all that is required to protect the leading edges from any minor scuffs with the cones and to put a class markings (number and class) on your car for identification while on the track.

An excellent question! Devens, MA is near Leominster, north of Worcester, and right near Ayer.

Ayer Massachusetts.

It's easy to get to, located off of Rt. 2.

Directions to Fort Devens Event are held at Moore Airfield on Route 2A which is separate from the main Army base.



NOTE: We will be using the State Police entrance on Rt 2A (Fitchburg Road) for 2010.

Take Route 2 West. After you go under Route 495, travel another 3.6 miles. Take Route 111 North for 2 miles. At the rotary, take Route 2A West toward Ayer. Stay on 2A as it turns right in downtown Ayer. After the right turn stay on Route 2A by bearing left at the fork. After the strip of stores, the entrance gate will be on your left after crossing the railway lines.

Right now Molloni and I are gauging interest.. I will add more dash plaque's/trophies if we have a larger than expected turnout..

I will post when everyone can pre-register for the Autocross race. It is usually enabled the week before theevent.

Registration should start Sept. 20 and go till Sept. 23rd (registration stops midnight on the thursday before the event).

If you just want to attend the car show, you only need to be on Molloni's list.

If you want to race, you will need to pre-register on the Axware site, the week prior to the autocross event. I will post details/signup procedure when we can register for the autocross.
