Painted stripes

I love the look of the rally stripes on the new Camaro but do not like that they are stickers. I am thinking of ordering my car with no stickers an having them painted on. I assume I can just have the existing panels sanded down, stripes painted on and a new clear coat applied. Is there more to it than that? Also what is a ball park cost?

I got mine done for $550, but that was also because it was already in the shop because my car had been hit. The whole front end was being replaced, including the hood.

It would have cost more to do the stripes seperately (800 I think).

The hood was awesome, and the trunk stripes were painted over and clear coated with no sanding. There is a slight ridge where the new paint is, but it's not really that noticable unless you run your fingers over it.

Since mine is a daily driver, I expect that in 5-10 years, there may be enough chips in the paint that I might consider getting the whole car repainted professionally after it being sanded down. I might consider doing some sort of ghost stripe theme by them or customize the look a little more.

I located a shop on Long Island and was quoted $2,500! He guaranteed me stripes will blend in without bump or ridge, but thought price was too exorbitant. Will continue to shop around, but if you find someome, please forward info. BTW last year located shop in Jersey shore (402 Motoring, or 402 Motors, I believe) and he quoted a price of $1,600, but too far for me.

I chose not to get the decal stripes as well - didn't like the matte finish, and didn't like the idea of having to work around them while waxing.

I'll be pricing out painted stripes in the next year or so, so she'll run around naked until then.

I had mine painted on by my dealer so that my paint warranty would be valid. Also, they guaranteed me that'd take the car back if they messed up the body paint.

They showed me pictures of other jobs they've done. I was more than satisfied how they turned out. They charged $800.

I'm keeping this car for the long haul so I didn't believe decals will hold up to tree sap, bird poop, sun fade, etc.... Now I'm thinking of having my gills painted the same color. You may want to consider that also while you're in the paint shop.

My car is IBM with SIM stripes.

I'll also say that I got the Friends of Friends GM discount. So when I ordered my car it wasn't based on price. I shopped 3 dealers before I found the one that I felt comfortable with doing the paint job. The other 2 would not take the car back if I didn't like the paint job.

This dealer did such a great job that I also had them put on the GM exhaust upgrade and Heritage grill.

I was quoted anywhere from $600 - $900 for painted hood and trunk stripes.

Actually I remember one place quoting me at $1,150.

Going to a custom guy next week

Does truly amazing work. Having semi transparent stripes front to back, blending from blue to light purple on an IOM. Expecting to pay about $2500

My dealership has an example of painted stripes on the hood in their show room. One side is painted, and one side is the stickers. Painted stripes are so much nicer and theres no raise in your hood from the stripes for wax, etc. to get trapped. My dealer charges $695 for the hood. Might want to see if yours offers the same.
