Question Powder Coating Calipers

hey you guys,

just wondering, when you powder coat your calipers, (im doing it the same color as my car) do you put a clear coat on it?

also, is there any more info i should know about powder coating my calipers?

what is a good estimate of how much it should cost?

thanks!!

Powdercoating is a specific process I don't think you could do yourself if I'm not mistaken? It needs to be heated and whatnot from what I remember.

Do you mean you're "painting" your calipers? If so I think most people are using actual caliper painting kits....such as G2. I think the kits range from $30-40. This is all speculation, though, haha! As I haven't done any of this but I've seen people on here doing both.

You can buy a diy powder coat kit. Don't see why you couldn't put clear on it. a vender does powder coating, check the sponsor section, i will see if i can find a link.

powder coating is the process of positively charging particles, and spraying them onto a negatively charged item, in this case, a caliper. Once sprayed, you need to bake that caliper to "set" the particles. You can read about the process here:

http://powderperfect.com/diy.asp

it takes practice, and you need the gun and all the stuff. I would suggest just taking it to a shop. You're in socal, so should be able to find eleventy places to get it done. PM me if you need a shop. Shouldn't be more than 50-100 bux, depending on what you need don't, and the color you want.

You also shouldn't need a clear coat, as it A) cures pretty shiny, and B) is MUCH more resistant to chipping than normal paint. It will dull a little, over time, but it's not like paint where it has to be cleared to look shiny.

Why don't you just paint em?

Much better selection of color and once you clear coat em.....like 10 times, they last a good while! We do a good two sets a week. They're holding up surprisingly well considering it's paint. We do do a few things to them before paint that might be helping though.

Dig it!

also, do you think i should make them red or blue? i think red would match because of my taillights and the ss emblems (also the original color of brembos are normally red)

blue would be good too but its hard to chose >.<

Just let Mike the Powdercoater take care of it.

He has a very good reputation on this and other forums. These are the calipers he did for me.

You can get the brembo stickers on eBay really cheap. Clear coat over them and done. If you use Mike he will do it for you.
