Ford takes a page from the RIAA

http://www.adrants.com/2008/01/ford-...ts-returns.php

Quote:
Recently the club created a calendar which contained images of club member's cars photographed by the member's themselves. Ford didn't take kindly to this and asked CafePress, the service the group had chosen to print the calendars, to kill the project claiming all the images in the calendar are the property of Ford...including the Black Mustang Club logo.
Wow... that's all I have to say.

I wonder if ford didn't want to set a precedence by allowing this calendar to be sold. Maybe then it would be harder to stop someone else from truly trying to make money on Fords trademarks.

I don't know the part about they own the right to the owners pics??? That's tough to accept.

Did you read the comments section?

I think everyone should take the advice of one poster who mentions

"I respectfully insist that you immediately cease and desist any mention of the words Ford or Ford Motor Company or Mustang in your blog postings, as these are company trade marks and copyrighted and it is illegal for any company or person other than Ford Motor Company to profit from their use in any conceivable way that we may perceive. Thankyou."

In keeping with that, I don't think anyone should ever again say the words Ford, Mustang, etc. No one should talk about the "blue oval" in any way, shape or form. Then Ford won't have anything to worry about. I'm all for it. What do you say?

I'm thinking the legal department ran with this and didn't consult the PR department. This could be real bad for F*** if they don't retract this in some way. If F*** corporate endorsed this legal action. That says a lot about that company.

I took Slilverado's advice.^^^

Someone made a point on another forum, that I kinda like - the right people at Ford don't know about this, I'll wager. This is a stunt by some overzealous Lawyer-type who has obviously missed the ball.
Dummy.

Dragon (and others)...you're probably right. But, there's no reason why we can't do our part in making sure that the F word and its associated trademarks/copyrights are looked out for until they do straighten this out.

I for one will not stand here and let anyone abuse the good name of F*** or allow their trademarks/copyrights to be exploited. It is just wrong.

Okay, I couldn't even type that and keep a straight face.

This F*** lawyer really f***ed up this one. Next they'll be saying we can't mention that any F*** broke down and needs work. They'll call it slander. I'm glad I don't drive a f***ing F***.

When I read about things like this happening, my first thought is that it must be . It's just so completely ridiculous. What possible gain can said company think they can get from this? I haven't seen the calendar in question, but given the creators affiliations, I would assume it contained no slander or derogatory remarks towards anything related to said company.

You know what they say, "There's no such thing as bad advertising". Could this be some kind of misguided publicity stunt? Seems unlikely, but so do the alternative explanations.

we could take this one step further, I know in older versions of forum interfaces (I haven't gone in and done a full customization in more than a year) you were able to block certain words and phrases and replace them with something else. thusly typing something like the F word (we know which I'm talking about) would show in the post as F***
