USAA $750 off with insurance only or banking?
Might be a silly question but the $750 discount with Chevy only apply to insurance or is it also available to banking members? I ask mainly because as we know, banking is available to anyone and they have pretty decent loan rates.

I'll probably offend you

If you are able to get the insurance I highly recommend it. With all my discounts (military member, old age, married, great driver, multi-car, multi-line, accounts in good standing) I save quite a bit of money.
Remember it's not just for service members, their family can get it too. My wife was given her own account immediately when I signed up. |

You no longer have to be an officer or on active duty. If you are or were in the services, active or reserve you are eligible for USAA membership.

Regular banking customers with no military affiliation will not be eligible for insurance or the 750. Correct... but it's even more open than that. If your father was a member then you are eligible. My son is a full USAA member and has never been in the military. |

I think you're reading it wrong.
it says you must be a USAA Member. Doesn't say you MUST be a USAA Insurance Member. Because statment 2 specifically says if you don't have insurance to call the number and get an authorization code which then goes in your chevy dealer folder. The card or policy is only required because it must be in your deal folder with your chevy dealer. The way it is worded is if you don't have USAA insurance, not have proof to show Also the number provided to call goes right to the banking services, not usaa insurance. |

Back in 2009 people were gaming the system and basic banking users were getting the discount. GM and USAA tightened it up and added the wording that you are now reading. GM figured out that the insurance card meant they were full members so that's what they use in place of an actual membership card (which USAA used to give out). If you don't have insurance to prove membership it then you have to contact USAA and get the e-mail proof. Otherwise a simple debit or credit card would work. A dealership is at risk if they give this to just banking members. The money does not come out of the dealerships pocket and they will be glad to give it to you if you qualify If you don't believe me, ask Becky. Everyone believes Becky.. I'm not trying to argue or say I don't believe you, I'm simply pointing out the way it's written, again the way it's stated and read it's not requiring insurance customer, simply a USAA member. You can be a banking member and not insurance customer.

I guess it's written wrong because it doesn't fully explain what's going on with #2 Here's another good explanation from the other thread. Last edited by mlee; 05-03-2013 at 11:34 PM. Reason: add pic |

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I opened a savings account for the hell of it. Can't hurt, right?
I'll report back either way once the week day hits. |
