70 RWHP in a weekend's work
This past weekend I installed a 10% pulley, 1 7/8" Kooks coated long tubes with catless mids, and a RotoFab CAI. Then I went to the tune shop and had resized injectors installed and a tune and picked up about 70 RWHP. I had the baseline done back in December when I was 100% stock and I pulled a best of 508 RWHP. The same place that did my baseline, Complete Street Performance in West Chester, PA installed the injectors and performed a dyno tune and we got a best of 577 RWHP. There may have been more there, as we started to get some heat soak and the ambient was about 20 degrees higher than the baseline but I am pretty happy with the results. I love the exhaust note and I still have the vacuum line to my dual mode exhaust unplugged. If I ever get tired of it, I can always reconnect the vacuum line.
My part of the install was accomplished over 2 1/2 days completely by myself and I estimate I put about 18 hours into it. Before anyone says how slow I am, I had a lot of self inflicted delays and total amateur moments. After almost 40 years of wrenching you would think I would be past that but no. Some tips I would follow next time around: Wear long sleeves or put rags over sharp edges or you will look like you got in a cat fight and lost. When you rent the Chrysler Damper Puller make sure you have the extended rod to fit in the crank. Home made adapters eventually work. Breaking coolant lines suck. Don't do it. If you make a homemade damper installation tool, make sure it doesn't bottom against itself. A one inch female pipe nipple works better than a 3/4" pipe nipple. Heat is your friend on the manifold to midpipe bolts and the O2 sensors. Use sealer on the exhaust connections. It would really help to have a friend when starting the header bolts. If you use the Stage 8 locking tabs that come with the Kooks, don't install the ones above cylinders 4 and 5 until the plugs are already in. When installing the RotoFab elbow, it is possible to install it 180 degrees out of phase. if the breather connection is goofy, you have it wrong. I questioned whether I should have done this while I was in the middle of it, but I am very glad I did it. |

I love to do all this stuff by myself and know for sure how slow it can be sometimes. 18h is not bad at all! |

Nice! Going to be doing the JRE 75 RWHP package install myself in the next couple of weeks. I'm actually looking forward to getting my hands dirty (and of course scraped).

Our power packages are geared toward the DIY guy. The JRE 75 RWHP Package makes 75-85 RWHP over stock, add LT headers with supercats for another 10-15 RWHP. I was making 8 1/2 to 9 lbs of boost before so the 10% did raise the boost. I would want to address the intercooler system before I go any bigger on the pulley. I plan to enjoy what I have for awhile, see what my dragstrip numbers are and then consider the 18%.

The stock tune will go in to Cat overtemp protection and get in to the 90s but that is not dangerous as it rarely goes there. It is when you need cat overtemp and your out of injector that is becomes a problem and cats will melt. Ted.
