Funny story, she actually backed into our mailbox one day in her 01 camaro, (way to look behind you) then instead of asking me to fix it, she moved the car so that she could "re-adjust" the mailbox with the front bumper. I hope this backup sensor will detect mailboxes.
And after that story, you're actually thinking about letting your wife drive the car?? Reconsider! Reconsider!

I have no issues with the convenience of having backup sensors if you want them. I DO, however, have an issue with them being provided for people as a crutch to help them not know how to drive. If you cannot park your car without a bunch of idiot-proof gizmos, you shouldnt be allowed to own it.

I think society has become lazyand is relying on others to take care of them instead of paying attention to your surroundings. I don't need back up sensors I have eyes!!! I can look at the area I'm backing into. I have good judgement of distance, unfortunatly not everyone has the mental capacity to back up without hitting things. Hence everyone becomes subjected to "safety" items.
This is getting really irritating...

For people like this... The "anti-technology" people... Along with the "gotta-be-a-manual" people... Trying to keep everything old school, and do-it-yourself... Why not get rid of power windows while you're at it? You have arms, you can crank them windows down manually! And power mirrors? Screw 'em! I'm sure you have a friend that wouldn't mind sitting in the passenger seat and adjust them for you. What about power steering? Don't you want to "feel" like you're actually steering the car? And no key fobs for you either. How about manually unlocking your door with your key from now on... That should make you feel more comfortable.

You see... technology is moving forward... little by little, car manufacturers are adding new features to help us... That does not mean people don't know how to do stuff. Do we not know how to roll up an old-school window? Or adjust a mirror? Of course we can, if necessary. But these new technologies are there to help. Do you think people bitched and complained about the first wheel being invented? "You're using what?! To make transporting stuff easier?! You fail at life! You have arms and legs, just walk and carry that stuff over your shoulder!"

Meanwhile, you are sitting on the internet... the most technologically advanced and "convenient" form of communication we currently have... Why don't you go back to hand-writing letters and sending them in the mail?

Or better yet, just go back into your cave while the rest of the world advances around you.

I was thinking the same thing. That is my biggest concern. I hope they don't add those ugly dots to the bumper. But if they are well hidden, and unnoticeable unless you are really looking, I would definitely get this added.

LOL

I didn't mean the 'pull tab' sticking out of the seat itself. It's hard to explain without a pic (which I don't have), but judging by CamaroScotty's reply that the warning system was audible and not visual, my theory is moot anyway.

Huh?

My informal tally of feedback is that under 10% of people wanted them to add this option. There's been a lot more people looking for other things like HUD, full ABL, Green Paint, NAV screen, etc.

I don't know where you come off saying they responded to feedback. I think they just happened to have this done already and threw it out there to make a big deal out of it and get more free advertising from blogs and magazines.

I personally do not need to spend $300 for holes in my bumper. I don't back into stuff and if I did, I could get the bumper painted twice for that price.

This better not be MANDATORY or it will be another reason NOT to get one yet.

...what? How exactly is ambient lighting useful?

And the HUD? You can see your speed by looking down at the speedometer...

I would like to see both of these as well, but your agument confuses me...

What good is just an "Audible" warning if you can't hear?!!! The visual part is what I like about it most as it tells just how close you are by the number of lights that are lit. NOT a good decision by GM here!
( 1 Yellow light = 3' away )
( 2 Yellow Lights = 2' away )
( 2 Yellow and 1 Red Light = 1' away from object )

( 2 Yellow and 1 Red Light ALL FLASHING = )

"Audible ONLY = USELESS IMO" EPIC FAIL !!!

I'm sorry, but Camaro 5 members are not a great indication of the typical drivers of the Camaro.

The manual indicates that there are lights. Perhaps this will illustrate what you're trying to say. The indention is definately there already.

No no. Lights would do my loving wife no good. She needs something loud and obnoxious like a recording of Gilbert Godfried screaming "STOP THE F'ING CAR RIGHT F'ING NOW!!!!!" to get her attention...

All the seatbelts and air bags and extra weight in the world didn't get this car a 5 star crash rating, so why foist yet another $300 onto the car for people who don't HAVE 4 year olds or for people who actually watch where their 4 year olds are playing?

Why not petition the government to make these mandatory on ALL cars, like air bags and seatbelts? That way we can burn more foreign oil to lug around thousands of pounds in extra safety crap for people who are too ignorant to drive carefully and pay thousands of dollars when all that crap fires off when you run over a gopher or deer?

If we didn't have these safety nanny devices mandated we could have a sub-$30K 2SS/RS!!!!!!!!!!
