GM High Tech Performance Article

Great article on the Z/28.

Not sure if this is the current one, I'm in Afghanistan, August 2013 issue...

New Dif cooler that's integrated into a standard SS Dif cover...we hope to accessory to them as well, those SS and 1LE owners running at the track!

Springs and bushing increased spring rates 100-400 percent the rate!!!!!

Other great tidbits too.....

The Z28 will not use the SS diff, it uses the ZL1 rear with a different posi unit and I believe gear as well.

Didn't say it uses the SS Dif...uses a cover that will fit the SS or 1LE, that has an integrated cooler on the cover!

That's interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind.

It appears to be the SS/1LE aluminum case with different limited-slip internals and cooling. Not the cast iron ZL1 case.

"Power is distributed to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential featuring a helical gear set, rather than traditional clutch packs. The new design enables the driver to apply more power and get through corners faster, by continuously adjusting the torque bias to maximize available traction."

Well that makes sense from a weight cutting standpoint, the ZL pumpkin is chubby. Its also good news because I can buy the guts and put it on mine. Although I'm concerned the torque biasing system is electronic and part of the "brain" of the car and therefore not going to be swappable. Stupid teaser press releases.

I think they were saying the cooling feature could be added to the SS and 1LE/SS.

I've read elsewhere the 3.91 ring and pinion were heat treated for additional strength.

At no time, and in no place, did GM state the ZL1 carrier/diff was being used in the Z/28. In fact, it's been a recognized and stated fact here from March-forward that the 1LE diff/axle set-up was being used.
