LSA crate engine?

can the LSA be ordered as a crate engine? It would be nice to swap out for that then sell my LS3 bc it would be able to handle higher boost probably!

it does not have forged pistons. I'd be worried about turning up the boost at all in that thing.

Dealership Markup?

Hey, If you just ordered from a dealer... did you pay a premium for early ordering. I went to a dealer two days ago and he said he wasn't selling anything for less than 10 thousand dollars over sticker. He says I won't be able to get one for sticker price for a year maybe, "Until the 'New' wears off." Did you have to put up with this crap too?

This GMPP catalog says the LSA is the engine for the Z-28, not the LS9, but both use the 6.2L engine block same as the LS3, except I think the LS9 is cast differently by process. So if you want, instead of selling your whole LS3 you could modify it with new forged internals, cam (which your swapping anyway you say) and maybe check to see if you will need new heads, then add the supercharger. If your not going to boost it up to 600HP like the LS9, then you may get away with using the same block and see if its cheaper than the whole new engine. but if your going to get a whole new engine anyway, the LS9 is more powerful, very similar, and the LSA has a wimpy camshaft with low lift, to provide "Cadillac's signature quietness and refinement." It's all up to you if you have the money, but you may not have to swap the entire engine. Make sure you have a buyer for the old engine first. Don't get the LS7 if your going to Boost it, though, Chevy tried and the walls were too thin to hold the pressure, due to the larger bore, so that's why they went with the 6.2L instead of 7.0L. There's a ton of GMPP engines available, and some may not be street legal.

LSA Hypereutectic aluminum vs. LS9 forgesd aluminum.
LS9 made with specially cast Block will hold up to more boost.

The torque line is way off. It's almost like it's backwards.

I think whoever made those graphs had no idea what they were really supposed to look like. It was probably some graphic designer who only had a dynograph with only the hp graphed out and completely guessed what the tq would look like. I would be PISSED if I bought an LS9 and found out it only made 200 odd tq at 4000 rpm LOL with that tq at 6600 rpm, the car would be at about 755 hp!

Aren't the LSA and LS9 blocks the same save for larger bolt holes in the LS9? I could've swore that was the biggest change. I know they both have the piston squirters, but I thought all newer 6.2L blocks from '08 and up are cast the same with the same heat treatment, with the one exception being that one element from the LS9...

I think I'd like to see if one could get a couple more pounds of safe boost out of that LSA. I'm sure those hyper' pistons are better suited to boost than the stock LS3s, but I'm sure one couldn't go to radical.

I would build a heads/cam car before I wasted my money on the LSA. You can easily meet that 550hp range with heads/cam...Now add exhaust and intake, and you will have more flywheel HP than the LSA.

I'm sure it can take a couple more #'s, but I would be disappointed if I bought an LSA and was limited to only 550 rwhp.

I think the torque curves are probably accurate.
1) Im fairly certain GM reviewed the listing prior to publication, especially for 2 high profile engines.
2) they closely match each other at the low end
3) its basically an LS3 block + goodies, however the LS3 is 10.7:1 compression, the LS9 and LSA are both 9.1:1 compression
at low revs the S/C isn't pushing that much air in

LS9-SAE it looks steeper because the torque side values are half the HP values

You shouldn't post about things you don't know.

Do you know how a roots/screw-type blower works??? Boost is made basically off idle. MY CAR makes WAY more tq than that at the same RPM and it does not have anywhere near 638 hp, let alone 550+ like the LSA.

Not only that, do you know how hp is even calculated??? (TQ / 5250) X RPM = HP.

600 tq @ 6600 (as they have in the pic) equates to over 750 hp! Do you see 750 hp on that graph??

Those graphs are OBVIOUSLY errors.
