when did you first hear about the gen. 5?

I know this is kind of a pointless topic, but I'm curious. Not only that, I'm trying to kill time as I await the arrival of one of the best cars that will ever hit the market.

My first time seeing pictures was in 2004. I remember doing a search because I was so positive GM would not stand idle by and watch Ford own the muscle car market. I typed in "2007 Camaro prototype", and sure enough, the pictures were everywhere. They were not the ones we are all used to seeing now (concept, bumblebee, etc...) but they were sweet! I knew right then and there that I must have one. They were, however, a bit more retro than the beautiful concept we've all grown to love, but they were unique, fierce looking, and they had MUSCLE CAR written all over them. I fell in love. I wanted to propose to it right away, but it was only speculation and photo shopping at that point. I knew in the back of my mind that GM had to be working on the Camaro at that point.

These were some of the pics I came across. (yes, I know some of these are re-posts, but that's partially the point of this post).

Post some pictures if you've got 'em. I'd love to see them if I haven't already!

I remember it quite well...I was searching around for the Dodge Charger in late 2006. I wanted one - you see. Somehow, I found my way to Edmunds.com...So I ponied on over to the future vehicles section - just for fun....and low and behold - Camaro.

I fell for it instantly. The Charger held virtually no appeal for me once I saw the Camaro. See, the Charger was one of those "Okay, I can settle for this" type of cars. Camaro was "That's it! That's the one!"

Not 3 months later I came across this site, and here I am!

the first time I heard the Camaro was coming back was in Nov. 2003... just some rumors and drawings that some people I used to know popped up with... the next time I really thought about it was Sept. 2004, when another round of drawings showed up on the net... then in the summer of 2005, the leaks started again and this time it was not a drawing, but instead a clay model design study... and that was when I knew it was coming back for sure.

Oh man, I couldn't agree with you more. The (almost) finished product is certainly superior. I just wanted everyone to appreciate how much actually went into this car before they built her. It is one hell of a transformation. A couple of those pictures are completely hideous. This is meant to show what also could have been.

Don't remember the year, but I do remember having a dream involving a futuristic Camaro and the following day using google to search "Camaro concepts". Lol.

It was roughly 2 years ago. I was looking at reviews of the Detroit autoshow. I saw a picture of perhaps the most badass looking car ever. When I saw it, I noticed the bowtie and I then thought "Camaro?!?" I didn't even read the article at first, I just ran through the pictures. After I read what there was, I got thinking about the fact that if that car got built it would be one of the shortest retirements in automotive history. For the next year or so I kept looking around every month or two to see if there was an update on the Camaro. Eventually I became more and more obsessed with the Camaro and I came across a site that had some really nice photoshops of it. After a month of lurking, I finally joined up here in the summer.

Before I got interested in the Camaro I didn't care a whole lot about cars, particularly new ones. Oh sure, I could name off all the major muscle cars and knew that I liked V8s and domestics, particularly GM, but I didn't know a whole lot beyond that. That is no longer the case, and its probably all due to the new Camaro and all the searching that I've done finding out how much better it is than the competition

In the year or so leading up to the debut of the show car, I'd been seeing some mock-up renderings like the ones in first post in this thread. I knew they were fan pics, and I wasn't too impressed with them. The possibility of getting a Camaro if and when the car was resurrected wasn't even on my mind at all until about a month before the show car debuted. Some car blog posted leaked shots of the full-size push car (might have been a painted clay model) and I fell in love immediately.

Since having owned 3 Camaros and loved them for years (ordered a Z28 two weeks before they stopped taking special orders), I always wondered what would happen to the Camaro in the long run. Rumors flew about that a 5th Gen was possible, but I held off until I heard something concrete.

It was two days after NAIAS in Detroit when the concept was unveiled that I found it. I never heard of or read anything anywhere about the concept being unveiled up until one day....... Just ever so often, I would do a google search for 5th Gen Camaro and concept Camaro. Two days after it was unveiled, I was sitting on the computer, did a search, and began screaming out loud for my wife to come over NOW!!! I'll admit it...I shed a tear.....or two. I was soooooo happy to see that silver concept on stage....IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

That was it for me....two days after Jan 06 NAIAS.

I found this site a short while later while searching for more pix and info.

The first time I heard about it was when they showed the silver concept on the Today show(I think it was at the NY auto show). I fell in love almost immediatly, see I've always wanted a good 'ol American muscle car, pretty much my whole life. I saw that concept and was like THAT'S IT!!!
