Camaro info from GM

pulled from another forum but thought it would be nice to share here as well..

This is a special bulletin to introduce the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The purpose of this bulletin is to make you familiar with the vehicle's features and describe the action your Service Department will need to take to ensure that your dealership is able to fully service this vehicle.
<A href="http://gsi.xw.gm.com/si/showDoc.do?docSyskey=2255849&from=ns#ss1-2255849">ABOUT THE VEHICLE

The 2010 Camaro is a four passenger, front engine, rear-wheel drive coupe. It's constructed on a unitized body frame with one and two-sided galvanized steel. It was designed in Melbourne Australia by GM's Holden group and built in Oshawa Ontario.
The Camaro is available in three trim levels: the base LS (V6), the mid-level 1LT/2LT (V6), and the up-level 1SS/2SS (V8). The LT and SS models can also be ordered with an RS appearance package.
<A href="http://gsi.xw.gm.com/si/showDoc.do?docSyskey=2255849&from=ns#ss2-2255849">Electrical Architecture

Global Diagnostic System (GDS)

During the month of March 2009, General Motors released the next generation in vehicle diagnostic scan tools, the GM Global Diagnostic System (GDS). This system will take advantage of the increased display and processing power of your Techline service PC and provide technicians the ability to work with vehicle data in ways unavailable on the Tech 2®. GDS will take the place of the Tech 2® on certain vehicles when communicating and diagnosing vehicle on-board electrical systems.
Global Diagnostic System (GDS) will take a further technology step. Technicians will now be able to view much more data from many different perspectives along with an improved snapshot feature when compared to the older Tech 2® technology. The system works with simple menu-driven commands using a standard Windows® interface. This new diagnostic tool platform and software will be required for use with all GM Global Architecture (Global A) vehicles beginning with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. This vehicle will no longer permit Tech 2® communication for diagnostic purposes.
While steps have been taken to ensure a smooth launch of the GDS platform, there is still a need for dealer and technician preparation. Dealers must ensure that their current IT infrastructure meets the GM specifications required for Techline applications and technicians will want to complete Global A-related training:
• View updated specifications at www.gmdesolutions.com
• Changes include a minimum of 2GB of RAM and the use of the Intel™ Core® family of processors.
• Older Pentium® IV or better processors and a minimum of 512 MB of RAM might allow GDS to run, but the performance may not be acceptable.
• Purchase of a mobile computing device; either a laptop or a tablet PC, for use when performing diagnostic procedures on a "road test". A list of Techline approved devices will be available at the GM Dealer Equipment website (In Canada, look on GM GlobalConnect in the Service Library under "Tools and Processes and Equipment."
• Training course 16048.26W covers the use of the MDI and GDS for diagnostics.
Delivery of the GDS application will be executed through TIS2WEB. Click on the GDS icon on the TIS2WEB Home page. The Start GDS button will launch the GDS Smart Start application to download, install, and set up GDS on a shop PC.
• Download and installation time will be dependent upon the Internet bandwidth available during the download process.
• The application will need to be loaded on each shop PC individually.
• Once the initial application installation is complete, GDS will run in either a standalone mode or launched from the PC Desktop icon or from TIS2WEB. Updates to the software will only be downloaded when launched from TIS2WEB.
Dealerships requiring assistance in the process of installing GDS and the MDI should contact the Techline Customer Support Center@1-800-828-6860 (English) or 1-800-503-3222 (French).

Keys

Due to the uniqueness of the Camaro ignition/door lock key, special equipment is required to cut a key. If you do not have the required equipment, a cut/coded key can be ordered through GMSPO. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 09-00-89-010 (Key Cutting Procedure for Obtaining Replacement Key) for additional information. The remote control transmitter and the key shank are not serviced separately.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System and Operation

Important: The vehicle will ONLY lock the doors with the RKE transmitter, door key, IP door lock switch or manually operating the door lock with the driver's door closed. With the driver's door open, the locks will cycle locked then unlocked if attempting to lock the vehicle. Also note the doors will not lock with the passenger door open.
Important: For each vehicle, there is one flip key with an RKE attached to an RKE transmitter, one fixed key with a transmitter and one key for the glove box lock.
For vehicles without remote start, the RKE transmitter functions will operate at a distance of up to 20 m (65 ft) away. Vehicles with remote start will operate at a distance of up to 60m (195 ft) away. The RKE transmitter has the following functions:
• Lock -- Press this button to lock all doors. The driver's door will not lock if open.
• Unlock -- Press this button to unlock the driver door only or all doors. The unlock setting can be changed in the Vehicle Settings menu by using the audio system controls.
• Trunk -- Press and hold to unlatch the trunk.
An emergency trunk release handle is located just inside the rear pass-through and can be used to unlatch the trunk in case of battery failure.
• Remote Start -- This button will appear on the RKE if the vehicle is equipped with remote start. After you press the door lock button, you must press and hold the Remote Start button for about 2 seconds. When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will light and remain on while the engine is running. The engine will continue running for 10 minutes. The remote start will not work under the following conditions:
- The vehicle's key is in the ignition.
- The vehicle's hood or door are not closed.
- The hazard warning flashers are on.
- There is an emission control system malfunction.
- The engine coolant temperature is too high.
- The oil pressure is too low.
- The immobilizer system indicates tamper.
- Two remote vehicle starts have already been used. The maximum number of remote starts or remote start attempts between ignition cycles with the key is two.
- The vehicle is not in PARK (P).
• Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm -- Press and release the red button to locate the vehicle. The turn signal lamps will flash and the horn will sound. Press and hold the button to activate the alarm. The turn signals will flash and the horn will sound until the button is pressed again or the ignition is turned on.
HVAC System

The HVAC system is a single zone manual system. The system defaults back to the previous key off setting when using the remote start.
Retained Accessory Power (RAP)

These vehicle accessories can be used for up to 10 minutes after the ignition key is turned off:
• Audio System
• Power Windows
• Sunroof (if equipped)
Power to the windows and sunroof will work up to 10 minutes or until any door is opened. The radio continues to work for 10 minutes or until the driver's door is opened. Also note that if the passenger door is opened, radio operation will continue, but window and sunroof operation will end. For an additional 10 minutes of operation, close all of the doors and turn the key to ON and then back to OFF.
Tilt/Telescoping Steering Wheel

The column tilts as well as telescopes when the lock lever is released. The lever is on the outboard side of the steering column. To adjust the steering wheel, pull the lever down. Then move the steering wheel up or down or backward or forward. Pull the lever up to lock the steering wheel in place.
Sunroof

On vehicles with a sunroof, the switch is located on the overhead console.
The sunroof only operates when the ignition is in ON/RUN, ACC/ACCESSORY, or if Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is active.
The sunroof can be opened without holding the switch down. Push the switch in the open direction until the second detent. The sunroof will fully open. To stop the sunroof from moving, press either the open or close direction of the sunroof switch. Press and release the back of the switch to the first switch detent to open the sunroof to the vent position. Press it again to express-open the sunroof. To stop the sunroof from opening, press the switch again. A deflector automatically raises when the sunroof is opened and retracts while the sunroof closes. If the sunshade is closed, it opens automatically when the sunroof opens past the vented position. To close the sunroof, press the front of the switch and hold it until the sunroof is closed. The sunroof will stop if the switch is released. Close the sunshade by hand.

The fog lamp switch is located in the center of headlamp switch and is a push on/off type switch. On vehicles with the RS appearance package, the fog lamps operate as daytime running lights (DRL) and there will be no symbol on the dial.
Radio Faceplate

The radio faceplate is a separate component from the radio. The faceplate contains the radio control knobs and buttons for all audio functions. In addition, the HVAC head controls are part of the faceplate. The faceplate communicates with the radio through serial data and directly connects to the radio. When the operator rotates a radio knob to change radio stations or increase the volume a message is sent to the radio over serial data. After receiving the message the radio will make the adjustment. Other messages communicated between the radio and the faceplate includes the following:
• The content for the monochrome display
• Button presses/knob rotations
• Commands for the state of indicators
Tip
Refer to SI diagnostics to gain a better understanding whether a system fault is in the faceplate vs either the radio or HVAC control modules.

<A href="http://gsi.xw.gm.com/si/showDoc.do?docSyskey=2255849&from=ns#ss7-2255849">Unique Vehicle Characteristics

The purpose of this section is to familiarize you with some of the unique characteristics of the vehicle. The following functions may operate differently than what the customers are used to and are considered normal.
Exterior Lighting

The Camaro comes with two distinct lighting packages: The standard lighting package on all models use halogen composite headlamps and are equipped with fog lamps. Vehicles with the RS appearance package, use High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with integrated halo rings and the fog lamps operate as Daytime Running Lamps (DLR). This may cause some customer confusion.
Power Window Indexing

The Camaro uses a window indexing feature to further eliminate windnoise. This feature automatically lowers the window a small amount when the door is opened. When the door is closed, the window will raise fully. Some customers may comment that the window does not clear the molding when the door is opened, especially in the colder months due to frost on the windows. Please note in most cases, the system is working as designed. The mechanics of the outside door handle activate the window, so the faster the customer opens the door to get in, the more likely slight contact with the molding will occur.
Inflatable Restraint Passenger Presence System (PPS)

New safety regulations required an increase sensitivity for the passenger presence system to acknowledge a passenger is present in the seat. This new sensitivity might cause more occurrences of the passenger airbag status indicator warning system to activate with only small packages in the seat. The owner manual suggest that if you plan on placing various objects on the passenger seat, to buckle the safety belt to avoid the warning chime and indicator light. Another important note is that the passenger airbag status indicator is located in the overhead console, this may cause some customers to come in wondering why there is a chime with no warning indication.
Note: The PPS consist of two components; the module and the seat sensor mat, depending on the diagnosis, these components are serviced separately.
Door Lock

The doors can be unlocked from the inside by pulling the door handle. Pulling the door handle again unlatches the door.
Manual Transmission Operation

The TR6060 6-speed manual transmission in the V8 equipped vehicles, includes a 1-to-4 shift feature that helps achieve the best possible fuel economy.
The 1-to-4 shift light will turn on when, from a standstill, acceleration and vehicle speed qualification are met. When the shift light is on, the transmission can be shifted only from 1st to 4th gear. Forcing the shift lever into any other gear may damage the transmission.
