I just managed to get a set (gears only) from a C5 vendor. That's all you really need if you can get them.

You really don't need the full kit which includes shims, gaskets, oil additive as well as the ring & pinion, what you need are the gears (ring and pinion #22813040 ) and the speedo recalibration. Have your dealer contact Billy Lawrence Chevrolet in Eufaula, AL as they installed the gears and performed the speedo recalibration for another C5 forum member in Jan. Keep us updated after you speak to your dealer.

I already have a new oem 3.91 gear set I cant use them because if I had them installed it could void the warranty on the drive train. if I use a hand held tuner to adjust the speedo it would void the warranty on the ecm and motor. in the great state of Crapafornia and any state that uses the new 50 state smog laws any mod and that includes any to the ecm, motor, gearing and speedo adjustments with out a e.o. number is illegal and the dealer could get in trouble with c.a.r.b . also any dealer that adjusts the ecm for speedo would have to use the soft ware the g.m corporation approved . the complete 3.91 gear kit has the o.e number that lets a g.m tech to override the stock ecm programing for the speedo adjustment and keep the smog Nazi off their back and I keep my warranty.

That's why I suggested to contact Billly Lawrence Chevrolet in Eufaula, AL to see what they used to recalibrate the speedo as some dealers have access to the recalibration but not the whole gear kit.

Most dealers have access to the 3.91 cal. GM's kit's now offer tuning for it. Just matters when they will release it as the kit.

did you even read the whole reply? as stated before their are many reasons I don't want to just put gears and do the speedo as the other guy did. I have read that thread and I would think the dealer was in a state that was lax on the smog laws and had a speed shop in the back and did not care about the warranty or violating smog laws.

Ordered gears yesterday. My dealer has no estimate of when they will be available. $550 for gears , $950 for installation and speedo recalibrate.....ouch. I see them online for less, but no one has them in stock.

PS service manager said as long as I purchase parts from GM and they do all the install, it will not effect my warrantee and will also cover new gears.

I ordered a complete 3.91 diff and got it in two days. Going to be selling my 3.43 diff now to recoup the cost. Complete diff was 1500 bucks so if I can sell my diff with 13k miles for 600 I would say I came out ahead. Seems as though GM would rather sell the complete diff as others have stated I have been waiting months for just the ring and pinion to come available with no luck.

Just got a call from my dealer, gears are in only took 2 days, yippee, planning on having them installed Monday if it doesn't snow. It is the full kit.

$550 should be for the PN listed in the OP. Dealers can get these rather quickly once the order is placed. They should direct ship straight from Michigan.
