Senna's Footwork

This may not seem to be Z/28 related, as he's driving an NSX. However, much has been written about the importance of footwork. In light of the overly large pedal gap on the Z/28, watch this and weep. If you truly want to feel humbled -- like a schoolboy, by comparison -- watch the Master at work IN THIS VIDEO...

Like criticizing the Mona Lisa -- though I did notice the same thing...

Not surprisingly, Senna is doing it perfectly. Furthermore, with slight modification that technique will work on any car, no matter how far apart the pedals are. To extend your reach to the throttle just rotate your right foot counter-clockwise which will give you more foot area to reach the throttle. To help with the foot rotation you can point your right knee inward a little bit. Sometimes it helps to move the seat forward one notch to accommodate the slight knee bend.

I’ve driven a LOT of cars, and using this technique I have yet to encounter one that I couldn’t heel and toe easily.

Looks like he's able to heel-toe with his foot at about 11:00. In most of my cars (wife's Subie excepted), I'd have to be at more like 10:00 (narrow foot, wide pedal spacing) and I don't think it rotates that far without discomfort.

What jumped out at me was the fact that he was wearing loafers in the first place (rather than some sort of tie-up thin-sole shoe).

That's what the inward knee bend is for. Try it! I can easily get to 9:00 if I need to.

What about cars with the break like 2 inches taller than the throttle.

everytime I rotate my knee in it just hits the steering column, it's almost like I need to be able to adjust the pedals deeper into the footwell, or get one of these wider accelerator pedals. idk :(

↑↑↑ Same here, and a dimple in the transmission tunnel might be nice as well (except that it'd probably foul the transmission case).

Smaller diameter steering wheel??? Relocated/revised pedals???
