ZL1 diff question

So been looking for a ZL1 diff along with 30 other people in the ZL1 section and there so expensive on eBay I think I’ll buy a new one found the 3.73 ZL1 for 2100. Brand new, the z28 is little cheaper and lighter same size ring gear I believe but aluminum case will these hold up as well? Anyone try testing 1 on 900 plus? Thanks Tommy

ZL1 at a minimum if you are drag racing at 900rwhp

Yea I’ve seen most of the aftermarket stuff but they priced themselves out of the market in my opinion

Just to be clear, the Z28 is still the 218mm ring gear in an aluminum housing, but has a Torsen style carrier and cooler. The Zl1 is a 250mm ring gear with a clutch style carrier in a cast iron housing. Much stronger than the Z28 diff, but much heavier too.

IMO, ZL1 for drag racing, Z28 for road racing or just build a stock 10 bolt because Z28 rears are as much as a ZL1.

The 9 inch, S60 stuff is for guys running under 10 sec.

It also matters how you are getting to 900. If it's a PD blower, you need more rear. Turbos and centri blowers generally don't come off the line as hard. There are 900hp turbo guys running 10 bolts.

2011 Vert - 416/w 230/236 .612/.602 115lsa, 1LE suspension w/32mm rear bar. Z28 diff. ZL1 brakes.
