I did learn from my instructor to up shift into 5th on the long front straight which instantly lowered my oil temps to the 28X range for a full lap.

But I'd hate to think what kind of oil temps I would have reached if I had a couple of less quarts, and I even added the EXTRA quart like the Owner's Manual recommends when tracking.
Wow .. that is pretty high ... my 135i takes 7 quarts (3.0L Turbo) and I usually see about 235 - 245 during hot days here in texas (not autoXing or anything though) .. what oil temps do you see during normal driving ?

220 to 230. Remember a HSDE on one of the biggest road courses in America (4.2 miles) with three super long straights were I reached speeds over 155 MPH and 14 turns will stress any street car. I drove RA mostly in 3rd and 4th gear and mostly WOT except when actually in the corner, so this is probably one of the most extreme enviroments short of GM testing a street car will ever see in America.

BTW my 06 Z51 performed flawlessly, I drove up to Wis, tracked it for two days and drove it back home (450 miles from St Louis to Elkart Lake) and I got over 30 MPG.

What a fantastic car.

My question is, how do you know the LSA has oil squirters? Was that stated in the GM release a while ago detailing future Gen IV motors? Or have there been actual production and testing of the LSA?

Also for the guy who had oil temps up to 300 on Road America in the Z51, what do you think could have been done to cool the oil even more? A dry sump system?

the lsa does have oil squirters last time i checked and the new block for the ls3-lsa-ls9 all have the routing in the casting for the oil squirters, the ls3 just doesnt have the squirter boss drilled or have the actual squirter installed.

LSA is in the new CTS-V and it has oil squirters

Thanks guys, I was being stupid earlier and forgot the LSA is already in production

Now the only thing the LSA needs is forged pistons and then hello boost!

BTW What is the stock boost on the CTS-V? About 12 lbs?

Making an assumption

I am going to compare the camaro ss to the cobalt ss as I understand
that Mobile 1 will be required for the L99/LS3 as it is for the 2.0 S/C.

Yes, it is delivered with M1 and you will void the engine warranty if they
(the dealer) can prove you used anything else.

Buy your M1 from Walmart or similar store as the dealer will charge you
twice as much if you buy it from them.

There will be a break in process - 500 miles of varying engine speed and no periods of full throttle. You will find this in the owners manual.

The Camaro may be different but I dought it.

We also had a brake break in procedure, we'll see what the Camaro requires.

I find it hard to believe that dealer would be able to tell one oil from another. Can someone verify this info please?

well.... Royal purple oil is..... well, purple. lol and its all I use.

but they can actually send samples of your oil off for analysis to check its contents and whatnot and compare it to standardized M1 oil samples to compare what you are running.

i did the same thing (to see which oil and filter was the best tho) over the course of 9 oil changes.

RP stood out among the best
M1 and Amsoil were right up there
penzoil and Q1 was further down the list

Wix filters were among the best
M1 and K&N were up top but more expensive
Fram sucks... period.
