so, tell me about your ZL1
Hello everyone!
Let's cut to the chase...I want a ZL1. I do. I'm either going to buy a ZL1 or the Chevy SS sedan in 18 months when car notes are over on my Camaro LT V6. So, I'm here in the ZL1 forum to ask: for those of you who use your ZL1 as your daily driver, as I would, what has your experience been like? Is it good in weather? How long did you tires last and what did you pay to replace them and what did you replace them with? What's your insurance like? Any regrets? Is she reliable? What, if anything, broke? Do you walk away from her, stop and look over your shoulder and be like "Damn!" (I do now with my Camaro.) I'm not likely to mod it at all, aside from truly minor interior stuff, if that. So, don't hold back. Tell me all about your prized ride; I want to know. Thanks in advance, Buggs |

So I am from los angeles area and currently have 2014 ZL1 (red rock color).
I am leasing it for 3 years and it is my daily car. Have about 15000 miles and already changed the tires 6 times due to sharp objects stuck on my tire but luckily had purchased tire and rim protection for $360 ish and it covered every single one of them. It is summer tire so you might want to consider purchasing tire and rim protection. There has been a consistent issue with air condition and had to take it to the dealership at least 4 times due to incorrect setting or something but other than that so far so good. I haven't done any mods and prolly never will. Its just very cool looking car and the sound of the engine is what got me into this car! let me know if there is anything else you want to know and hope you get it! |

I have had my 2013 ZL1 for a year and a half. Daily driven, my only car. It has 47,000 miles on it and has not once given me any problems. I'm on my third set of tires and am replacing the brakes next week. I started modding my car the first week I had it and right now have about 700 whp. I've made at least 500 passes at the drag strip with a best time of 9.956 and a weekend running the 1/2 mile where it went 160 mph. Car is the best car I've ever had!

So looks like no takers yet so I'll guess I'll give it a go.
I kind of have a love a hate relationship with it since I have owned it. I love it when I can drive it but I hate it when I cannot drive it (right now). Mine has been purchased as a non-class specific recreational race car. It has run many 1/4 miles, Texas mile land speed events and many many laps on road racing tracks. My philosophy has always been if something breaks I will find a better stronger part and keep building. Is it good in weather....no 1400whp is crap on DOT slicks in the rain. I have about 12,000 miles and have destroyed the stock tires, one complete set toyo R888's and one set of M&H drag radials. Lets see I think 8000 miles on stock tires, 12 total hours of track time on toyos and maybe 80 drag passes on the M&H (they still have a few runs left) Now have Hoosier R6's, Toyo R888's and the short Hoosier drag radial to try to save my transmission. My insurance is only about $100 per month on the ZL1 but not listed as daily driver. Regrets....hmmm... I'm still undecided on this compound boost, it has tied my car up for almost a year..... Is she reliable...hmmm... I would drive it to Arizona and did in fact....but you better trailer her to the track....track is hard on any car. When I walk away, I definately say damn! Especially if I"m getting out of the car at a racing venue and have pinned the throttle.....then I walk away and say damn! lol. two others posted while I was typing....

I just bought mine in December as a daily driver. I live close to work so gas mileage is never an issue when I buy a car. I love the ZL1. Awesome design and implementation. Wide power band, mag ride, heads up display, exhaust, dual clutch, etc. are all awesome. Can't say anything bad about it except I would have liked to have a push button start option. People stare at it wherever I go and it drives like a dream. It may be hard for you to adjust to the power difference but it wasn't for me since my other car actually has a bit more power and is lighter. It takes a lot of restraint to drive within legal limits and stay out of trouble especially if its bright red like mine. No tickets yet. (still on the break in miles.)
This is a car you'll be happy to do only minor mods, if any, and I modded the heck out of my '95. The only thing I've done so far is added a subwoofer and pulled the exhaust fuse. I may do a cold air intake and pulley upgrade but I can't see myself doing too much to this very well designed car. I've never been more satisfied with a car purchase in my life and I've had many different cars. "Summer only" tires are a challenge since I bought mine in winter but I've decided to "suffer" with them until next winter. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a new set of wheels so I can have a summer set and winter set like my 95 or just Keep the same rims and run something with some compromises. Thinking about the Nitto Invo's up front and 555 drag radials out back. That combo should be good all year round where I live.

My zl1(charlene) is a cancer. she is 31 months old
she like long walks on the beach, menage a ocho's, and money shots to the face. her favorite movie is talladega nights (if your not first, your last. trademark of ricky bobby ink.) and message in a bottle. her favorite toast is here is to p&ssy and gunpower: one brings you into the world, once takes you out and I like the smell of both.

It really is a 'complete' car that I feel is a bargain when compared to other 600hp cars on the market. Not ONE issue in 13k miles and nearly one year of ownership. I'm still on my original set of tires since I don't light them up that often -- seen them around $1300 installed for OEMs. I pay around $600 per year for insurance - 42, married, kids, no tickets/accidents in the past 3 years. Weather isn't really an issue for me aside from the occasional rain in SoCal. Just remember these tires take a little heat before you go romping on loud pedal no matter where you live. No regrets at all! Best sports car I've owned and I've had a few cars. The suspension is incredible, the power is easy to control, brakes are stout. Car just feels solid and balanced. Get the Recaro's and micro suede package. Done deal! Pretty sure everyone turns around and takes a peek...

We drive a ZL1 as a fair weather car and like it very much.
I wore out a set a tires at a weekend track event....that was fun. Replaced with stock F-1s. |
