LFX - 1.48HP/CI LS3 - 1.13HP/CI LFX WINS
Shhhhhh, Just for us LFX folks....For the record.....and I can't be the only one who has computed this:
The LFX puts out more power and torque per square inch of displacement than the LS3. There is no arguing that both the LLT and LFX are potent mills. If the LS operated on the same power/CI ratio as the LFX, it would put out 557 horsepower/436fl/lbs TQ. Of course, it does'nt... The LFX! |

Watch the DI overhead cam version of the V8 when its released! It will have a ton of the design that works so well on the LFX.

Most car companies test out new features/designs on the less expensive engines before moving them up the chain. Do the same math with some of the newer N/A I4s out there and you'll see where things are really heading. Then compare them to the turbo cars and it will blow your mine. Almost all of those are above 100 HP/Liter now and going up. The Ecoboost F150 is at 120 HP/L and the LFX is "only" 90 HP/L. Can you imagine what V6's will be producing 10 years from now?

You just opened a can of worms. When an LS3 owner sees this post they are going to flip out. But for the record I like my 12 LFX. The gas mileage and power are great. Drove to Florida 2 weeks ago 75 mph with an average mpg of 26.8

Yup - once those DI V8s go into production in the Camaro... watch out!

Yeah, I can't wait to see what they will finally do. Rumors are the C7 vette will get either a 5.5 or 5.7L DI. That would be killer!

7th.....heee, heee...I know. Hey, just saying. The numbers don't lie.
Pound for pound, the argument could be made: the LFX is a more potent engine. Some mags have gone a step farther, arguing that as a total platform/package....the V6 Camaro is a better package than the SS. Better weight distribution, power better matched to the frame/suspension, better road manners, mileage, and braking. Again.....an argument can be made........just sayin. |

LFX = 323 HP / 345 LBS = ~0.9362 HP/LB
LS3 = 426 HP / 403 LBS = ~1.0571 HP/LB

still, a 6.2L or 454 DI engine would be INSANE!!! i'm thinking something like 800-1000HP N/A at the crank for a DI 454. |

Mike.....come on......weight/power?
Anyone knows a V6 is simply a V8 less two holes, the weight is appropriate. The blocks are very similar in mass/volume, as one would expect. It's how well the engine MAKES power that is impressive. It is rarely discussed here, but true, despite a beefed-up handling package, and bigger brakes, the V6 outhandles the standard packaged SS, and out-breaks/stops it as well. I'm not saying the SS doesn't kick booty, it certainly does. BTW, I have owned every generation of Camaro, save one....all 8's. But, since every post regarding just about anything V6 contains: "I would never own a V6 Camaro", or the like......I felt like the LFX folks should know, and be proud that the car as a whole, is a very well put together package, and the numbers/stats prove that out quite consistently. We should be focussing on the fact that a car is the sum of it's parts, not just the brute force of the engine that propels it forward. From "The Joy Of Six - Autoblog 6/99 "You see, you can make a pretty strong case that the V6 is really the better car. In fact, if you're going to drive the Camaro every day, the six-cylinder car is almost certainly the better pick. " From Auto-Trader Review of the 2012 Camaro "We highly recommend the Camaro V6 over its SS counterpart for a variety reasons. First off, it offers more-than-enough muscle car for most buyers. Secondly, the V6 is a near-perfect match for its chassis (as opposed to the overly powerful SS). For this reason the Camaro V6 is a better handling car. It's also more fuel efficient and affordable, making it one of the best performance values out there." From My Car Top 2012 "Promising 323 horsepower from a six-cylinder engine in 2012, the number attached to the Chevrolet Camaro is evermore impressive in historical context. In 1967, the inline-6 powerplant found in the base Chevrolet Camaro produced a meager 140 horsepower. For the 35th anniversary year (2002 which was also the final year for the 4th generation Camaro), the 5.7 liter LS1 V-8 engine achieved 325 horsepower inside the last Chevrolet Camaro SS." Personally, like it or not, I think the writing is on the wall. The future is going smaller CID, not bigger. And on 87, at @ $48 to fill up......I'm cool wit dat. Rock on LFX's!! |
