Thanks everyone for the info, I'm going to get the GM set! I'll go ahead and post what I've done to clean up (really cover up) thus far. (Sorry about the size, not too sure how to make it smaller)

I've gone ahead and purchased some Holley coil pack covers and was hoping to hear some of your opinions on how I should finish them. I have a CGM with a carbon fiber theme and was either going to leave the covers black with red lettering or paint them red and have black/carbon fiber lettering. The reason I'm leaning towards painting them red is to add some contrast to the engine bay and some of the other accents on my car are/will be red (BMR suspension goodies and calipers).

My only other question is whether or not the coil pack covers would need to be painted with a high temperature paint?

Thanks again! I'm hoping to do some more cleanup in the engine as I get more comfortable taking her apart haha.

This is one I'm just about to finish up (waiting on polished intake tube, and some hoses)

What did you wrap all your hoses and coil wire with?

I'd go with the red. I agree, it will give it some contrast and the neat thing about paint is, if you don't like it, you could always re do it.

By the way great job so far, if you don't mind, I'm going to put your picture on the OP. Keep up the great work.

Spent the day taring down the engine today.

I found it a little disturbing and interesting that several pistons had both compression rings aligned with each other.

This one was had both gap completely aligned! Doesn't help prevent blow by. I hope this is not acommon GM practice. Maybe some other with more experience could shim in.

What the check, I've grind just about everything, might as-well do the rear main.

Doc said even with the industrial mechanical theme I'm shooting for, it's still OK to have a little bling here and there for contrast, as long as I don't over do it. So I figured I do the the rear main, LOL. Notez; I shaved all the markings.

This is a close up of how rough some of the casting is but......... not for long. I'm almost done with the block, perhaps just another 25 hours! It is looking really good though, I'm even cleaning the casting in the crank case. My name is Nathan and I am OCD!!!!!!!

Damn Nathan! Rear main cover looks pretty. Once done you will need to haul around mirrors for when you park, so everyone can see all the hard work.

I just use a braided wire wrap (ours is from waytek) on the hoses so that the hoses and wire bundles match and look a like.

Kyle that's another nice job from NC-V. Could you take a picture from the front showing the whole bay? I like to post it on the OP below the last project you did.

Here is the master giving me some tips.

Work in progress:

Attachment 388931

Much better

Attachment 388932

Notice the number in the casting.

Attachment 388933

No more numbers, still have to do more work to finish it.

PS, I'm officially changing the name of this thread to "Project Snow Ball". Kilo-9 who would have thought I would be rebuilding my engine when I PM on how to relocate the coil, LOL!

Paul who would have thought I would be need deep when I bought the relocation heater hose from you
Go easy gringing numbers off the block, that could qualify as a federal offense!

Ordered all my ARP bolts 6 weeks ago and still nothing. Jegs blames ARP for drop shipping. ARP blames the shipping company. Shipping company says Whaaaaa? None of the 3 are willing to give me a refund since they all blame the other.

Maybe I should just give up, can't get anything right.
