Its so weird on the other hand though because I can almost guaranty you that my cammed catless ss with stainless works retro chambered exhaust (3 inch no mufflers) and full headers is louder than your car. I seem to get nothing but thumbs up and compliments never any negative crap. No offense op but this is why I could never live in california again. After dropping out of college in 05 and moving to Houston Tx, I'm still mad about not doing it so much sooner.

Hope you find the shit who left that and give his prius driving ass a good scare lol.
Why would he be scared?

Nope. It seems many here think if I (or others) disagree with what is posted, I'm being argumentative (or "belittling", if you prefer) and there's nothing about most of my posts that backs up your statement. Am I being argumentative right now because I don't change my opinion, agree with yours, and apologize to you? I think not.

This is a "discussion" forum mostly intended to assist and help others who share common interests - Gen5 Camaros. Generally that is what transpires here but there are also threads such as this that tend to imply someone who steps over the line in disagreement is an a-hole and has no right to their opinion.

The guy who left the note, for instance: Should he have kept his thoughts to himself and not left such a callous note? Probably so, but he didn't. Does that make his opinion on loud and smelly exhaust any less valid? No - he just has a conflict-avoiding and (some would say) gutless way of presenting it. However, like it or not, his negative opinion toward loud (and smelly) exhaust is shared by the vast majority of people who (in many cases) have the law behind them in agreement. Most people would rather not have to listen to overly loud exhaust in their day-to-day activities, plain and simple. The smell often produced from having no cats simply compounds their disdain.

I wouldn't have chosen to leave a note, but if me tending to agree with that person's opinion categorizes me as being on the "righteous high ground", then so be it. Just because you think people should be able to do whatever they want and to hell with everyone else, doesn't make your position right. I could be wrong, but I don't think you've ever seen me simply bad-mouth someone for the sake of belittling them, unless I was responding in-kind to someone who chose to bring the conversation down to that level. Perhaps you should find a way to block or ignore any of my posts in the future. That way you won't have to take the chance of being "pissed on". If you do feel "pissed on" by any of my posts, it's probably just your own piss being thrown back at you.

Your point is good.....pump gas smells like shit! My question to the OP is how much HP did your exhaust change free up? How much did your lap times or quarter mile times drop? Surely there was a performance gain to justify making a bunch of noise and annoying others. A loud car for no reason is no better than a loud stereo....but at least with the stereo, you can turn it down or off when you are being a nuisance.

I agree with what you originally wrote.

Would I be bothered by a loud car or one without cats? Nope. I love hot rods as much as the next guy, BUT... I also know it bothers some people and so I have to respect others as much as I wish to be respected. Today's cars have cats - learn to hot rod around them. You really, really can, you know. Then again, many today just do things without even really understanding what or why. I see that on here a lot... Someone heavily modifies their car but then posts admitting they know nothing about what makes cars work.

That said, I would not leave a note but the guy was within his rights to. Better that than something worse, eh? To say he is not a man is foolish. Those who break the law are usually the ones "not men."

I've seen and heard some cars modified that really are irritating. Add to that, their drivers feel a need to "show they are a man" by revving and hot rodding it around shopping mall parking lots (I AM NOT SAYING THE ORIGINAL POSTER DID THIS!). Just like the booming bass some folks seem to feel makes their radio sound better, when I hear it rattling the windows of my house as it comes down the street, you're darn right it bothers me and is a violation of my rights.

Anyone who says their butt does not pucker a bit when they are about to get into it with a big guy in good shape is either lying or has never been in any real scrapes. I'm sure mariojmoe gets second thoughts himself if he is about to get into with someone who looks like he scrap.

Now, if there is a firearm involved, that might allay the fears of the person holding the firearm, but in the long run the best move is to avoid stupid chit.

My headers came with offroad pipes. I would have had to go to a muffler shop to put the cats back in. Money spent that would not make the car any faster. Probably a fairly common scenario.

The comments above about a catless car being too loud or too smelly to the extent of annoying surrounding people has validity...but it all revolves around how the car is driven.

If i came roaring up to the the grocery story, down shifting to first as a pulled into the parking lot, speeding through the lot in first gear just to show off how loud my car is, making sure to pass by the front of the store so that as many people as possible could smell the fumes, and then parked... receiving a note on my car should be expected.

However, entering at the furthest entrance of the parking lot, cruising just barely above idle, and parking as far away from people as possible, such as I did, doesnt leave much reason for a response such as this.

All of the replies above that support the action of the note writer, assume that he somehow heard my "obnoxiously loud" car or smelled my fumes. Less than likely seeing how i was just above idle and far away from any people.

Now with this being the case, the note writer didnt have much reason other than what i think is to show off that he could tell i have removed my cats from simply hearing my idle or that he is an environmentalist.

so no need to bash on catless cars, a large portion of members here have them. they just need to be driven responsibly and courteously.

real men do not use lists.

Dude!
I was demonstrating a literary device known as "Sarcasm."
You can research it. You will find it in the dictionary between $hit and Syphilis.

It is hysterical that you called me on real men shopping, and not the misogynistic follow up.
