Paddles are totally worthless in the 1/4 mile... there is way too much delay and you have to anticipate shifts. You'll end up hitting the rev limiter more than anything... and killing your run..

The computer setup works great w/ 4L... Mad600's car is setup like that..

I know that a stock or mildly modded Mustang 5.0 runs the quarter faster with the 3:31 gears than it does with 3:73s simply because the lower gears require one more shift than the 3:31s. I had a really close race with a modded SRT Dodge last night and with his auto trans, he pulled on me on the 60 foot, but after that, I inched past him and watched the tach get right to the 6200 rev limiter at the lights. I beat him, but had I had to shift, he would surely have gotten me. In my 12.4@113 bolt on L99 It shifted just before the lights at 6400 RPM and I always thought that I could have lowered the ET if I had an extra 100 rpms in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

I do not have to shift into 4th with the stock 20's on the rear... I do with the 18's I just got, but for the sake of consistency I plan to race with the 20's on the rear just so I don't have to shift into 4th.

Stock, it depended on traction... Red line third or shift into 4th at the line....

Now, 4th is at about the 1/8th mile mark....

Yeah, using the paddle shifters is an almost guaranteed screwed up race. You either shift too soon, or you hit the rev limiter.
The computer does a much better job of making good clean shifts right where you want them.

When my car was stock it ran 12.7-12.8 right at 111 and hit the limiter a car length from the stripe in 3rd, it was 45* out also. My last outing was 30* hotter and with LT's, pulley,CAI and teds tune it ran a best of 12.6@113.3 still in 3rd, I think he sets the limiter at 6500 or 6800.

This is true... but I think he was talking about using them with his 4L80 setup which would still be a nightmare...

You can set up the 4L80 to auto shift...

Dang, man!....12.7 bone stock should put you in the top 3 or 4 on the Official 1/4 mile fast list! I'm going to check to see if you posted that time. Nice runs. I would have thought your mods would have made a greater improvement over your stock runs.

I'm getting into 4th at about 1000 feet. Running 12.4 @ 117 last year. This year I have a cam and pulley making 71 more rwhp so I should get deeper into 4th.
