I'm a Little Disappointed...
GM got so very much right with the gen5 Camaro. Everybody loves it...I love it too. BUT why couldn't they have put a better shifting m6 tranny/clutch into this wonderful car? I've owned many more manuals than autos in my life...learned to drive in a Morris Minor m4...was power shifting my '69 Road Runner when I was 17. This is the hardest shifting manual I have every had. Forget power shifting...forget quick shifting...don't count on getting into 3rd cleanly (you'll miss it as often as you hit it)...get used to that grinding feel...learn to live with the strange clutch behavior...I actually missed 2nd today...2nd!!!!!
It's such a gr8 car but I sure know what the weak link is. |

This one has taken me awhile to get used to also , right at 8500 miles now and I got it down pretty good now, I like it a lot, very tight feel to it.

No offense...but could it be shifting technique??? I use techniques I learned at Audi Driving Experience and tips I've gotten from here and other performance sites....I don't have many problems other than the 1-4 skip shift. Again, I don't mean this as an attack or insult...since obviously you're well versed in manual transmissions....
See ya on the road, Matt

Did you put a short throw shifter into it or is yours still stock? And I'm not talking about typical road shifting, I'm referring to muscle car shifting...drag racing...power shifting. I have no trouble driving the car but when I get the chance to simulate a drag race, I find it way less than satisfactory.

May sound silly , but I've found it best to treat it like a woman ... Don't try and force it, go easy and it slips right in.

I have trouble with second gear grinding a little bit when its cold and I am shifting hard , but other than that it's ok.

2nd gear has been notchy for me since day 1. I'm just going to replace the shifter but it is down a ways on my mod list since the turbos are on the way. The clutch is a pure pile of crap. A stock vette has ten times the clutch and that is not saying much. Never had trouble finding a gear, it just doesn't like to go into 2nd sometimes. I figure the output shaft is the weak link and the whole tranny will have to be torn into soon anyways.

I have 14565 miles on mine and have yet to encounter any transmission problems at all. Although I have missed 3rd a few times but, that was all me. Not the car. Hell I've even beat out Skip shift a few times. It's funny to shift into 2nd and then the 1-4 indicator comes on the DIC afterwards. The shifter is a little notchy but, works fine for me.

I agree with the OP, this tranny is so much harder to shift than the Corvette. The clutch is in the middle between the Vette and a Mustang and I don't have a problem with the pressure required to shift, just where it decides to grab.
I used to miss third drag racing all the time as the car got older, I just installed a Hurst ST and am waiting to take it to the track to see if that helps. All said, I still love my Camaro and would not trade it for anything.

Just picked mine up today i'm very familiar with manuals only 5 speeds though. I have to think alot not to bang it over to the left too much and be in reverse since i'm so used to 1st being the farthest gear up to the right! I miss that like crazy right now since i've stalled it twice so far because I didnt push it over far enough and tried to launch in third DOH! I'm sure lots of driving will cure that problem though!
