Loud bang when shifting into 2nd under aggressive acceleration

Help! Has anyone experienced a loud "bang" from underneath the rear seat of the car when aggressively shifting from 1st to 2nd? Run 1st up to about 6,000 and shift into 2nd and bang, sounds like someone hit the underside of the backseat of the car with a hammer! It just started happening (2010 SS with only 21,000 mi).

No other issues like clunking from a bad U-joint or anything and the car runs ok otherwise. Also happens if I do a heavy downshift, . . . BANG!

Anybody have any ideas or experienced this?

Thanks,

Might be the drive shaft. Its a two piece. Also better check your trans mount. Make sure it disnt come loose. There somthing going on if your shifting like that.

+1 get under the car and check the center drive shaft bearing mount bolts. I have heard stories about these coming loose....also check the front and back drive shaft bolts...

Any work done on the car???

F. Weller

BTW - Until you figure this out, no more 6k shifts bro....lol...unless you got lots of $$$$ and in that case send me some!!!

Loose or broken differential mounting bolt will make a loud bang as well. The broken driveshaft bolt was a constant bang bang bang .... sound. The bad diff bolt would make noise engaging reverse as well, 1st bang, reverse bang....

Your car has a guibo, not a U-joint.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giubo

Sooner or later, it will get loose and the bolts that go through it will bend.

But I see your car is a 2016. So maybe take it easy on the tranny until you figure it out. What happens if you double clutch between gears? This could provide a clue.
