Not too long ago I posted in the cosmetics forum asking why it seemed that there were no accessories offered in blue, and I guess that was foreshadowing this.
I know this doesn't help the people ordering their car now, but for all the people waiting, color options are the features most likely to change between model years. I would almost bet a week's salary that for MY2011 some colors will be axed and some new ones will be added. So everyone who wants green, jetsteam blue instead of aqua blue, and a lighter, more Le Mans-ish blue instead of Imperial blue (count me as a supporter of all those) or any other color change, keep asking, respectfully of course. Color options are a cheap and easy change and it freshens up a new model year, so GM will be more than willing to change up the color choices to meet demand.

I can understand them wanting to reduce part numbers and such, especially since now the SS and RS have different body parts, but come on, not a single BLUE for the SS?
IMHOPINION my least favorite color of all and the only one I would NOT get is the Red Jewel. Pay MORE and make your car look like a Buick? No thanks. I hope it goes the way of the '98 gold Fbodies. The way I see it there are Almost 3 reds in the line-up as it is if you count Hugger Orange as one of the reds. Get rid of Red Jewel and use the floor space and WIP areas or whatever for some BLUE SS parts. |

colors, options, and packages that are already circulating through GM/Chevy vehicles that are being put off or not available for launch is extremely irritating. |

this seems pretty ridiculous.
back when i was 16ish looking for my first car, i had wanted a wrx, in blue. after i found out how much they cost, i was going to get an r32, again in blue. didnt realize how much they were either so i was going to get a golf. (think thats offered in blue.) but eventually a friend of mine had gotten a camaro and then i wanted one. but to my disappointment, gm made like 5 MQB camaros, and NBM wasnt offered till the years out of my price range. so i settled on bright red. for the 5th gen i thought, hey look at these blues. aqua is kinda ehh (never liked mystic teal) but i really liked the imperial blue. seems brighter than nbm (my only complaint about nbm is that its kinda dark.) very classy color. but now its not offered on the ss? what the crap is the reasoning on that? one of the few things i kept hearing repeated about the car was how important customization (and interior features, like sound system, etc.) are. i think its pretty shitty to limit the color selection of the top car. especially when it could sell near the same volume as the base car, along with the fact that theres no good reason to do this. if i can pay $1000 extra dollars for a red, why cant i atleast be offered that to pay for a blue? this is definitely a "GM" type move and im sure it will be pointed out as one of the few negative points for the car. not to mention no hud (or nav) at launch. i think ill be waiting till 2011 or 2012 when the car is finished before i buy one. |

Perhaps they're trying to draw more people towards the V6 for reasons related to CAFE.

RANT ALERT
I love ya GM, I really do. You'll weather the storm.
But, 1. No NAV - I don't care, but most people do. OnStar turn by turn doesn't replace NAV. 2. No Blue for enthusiasts (SS)? Arrogant again. 3. Telling us we're too stupid to understand vehicle dynamics and safety constraints that produced a two ton Camaro. The same GM people who earlier said they called Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centers about the Camaro. Ask Nissan how to design a sports car, 370Z is gaining power, AND losing 200lbs from the 350Z, down to around 3000lbs. Don't think you'll feel an extra 1000 pounds on the road and at the gas pump? BS. The 370Z may start at $35000, but that will be close to a comparably equipped Camaro SS. We're willing to pay a couple of thousand more for a thousand less pounds of dead weight. 4. Saying you can't do anything about some horrible authorized dealers gouging everyone to death, repeatedly. Even on the 5 year old Corvette design. In summary: Quit telling us what we want. We are the customer. You are in deep shxx, because of your past greed (high-profit, gas-guzzling trucks and SUV's) and arrogance. Repent! Or just keep doing what you've been doing. Seems to be working well... I still hope to buy a Camaro or a Corvette. I'm hooked on Chevy V8 power, and all-American styling inside and out.

I too wanted the Imperial Blue but not sure now.
I decided to wait to place my order. I'm 3rd at my dealer but now I may go ahead and get a different car altogether. |

Sorry I'm late. Now what's this garbage about no blue??? Aqua blue was at the top of my list. Mustang has blue, the Challenger has blue but the Camaro's not? Who's the wizard that decided that? Come'on GM do the right thing an put Blue in the SS line up.

Something to consider about the 370z, it is a tiny 2 seater, not really in the same category as the camaro. Look at the G37 from infiniti, weighs in around 3600-3700 with that same drivetrain as the 370z will get. Does'nt sound much lighter than a 3750 lb camaro v6. V8's and associated beefier drivetrain will weigh more than a V6, that is just common sense. If you want to see what it takes pricewise to make a 3200 lb v8 rwd car, it is called a vette, fiberglass body, and not cheap overall. You are comparing apples to oranges. Also, what you call greed, most agreed with the domestics (including Toyota and Nissan) that trucks were a good investment. You may not think so but when a domestic company makes money it is good for America and for us all. Dealers are their own situation, it is called supply and demand, if you don't like it, then wait until supply is adequate to get a decent price. Otherwise be prepared to look around to find a good price. I would love a blue option, but I am sure they will eventually offer it. They have a lot of hard decisions to make to keep this car competitive, so it may be frustrating, but if fewer options means I get a better engineered car then I will take it. Ok, now my rant is over...

Weight: it stikes a nerve with me
Quote:
The Camaro is derived from the zeta platform which is derived from the sigma platform. This platform was chosen because it will keep costs down and it was designed to be versitile. The downside of this is its weight. Speaking of the G8, I've driven a one and didn't notice the weight. Others have driven the Camaro, they haven't noticed the weight. And we all know that Japanesse sports cars hold up to abuse real well lastly: of light weight, cost, and durability: pick 2 sorry for the rant, but I wanted to say more than 'check the sig'

Here's something to consider... there may be a good reason for a bunch of these things like the HUD delay and the lack of blue, but keeping the fans in the dark makes these decisions appear arbitrary and out of touch with the fans. You do more harm than good by telling disciples these explanations and forbidding them from telling us. That only makes it seem like there's something to hide. |

Dude looks like there will be two of use running around in Black in O-Town as Blue was my first choice. I too was a bit upset about the news but this will not stop me from getting my SS.
