Hybrid Camaro on the way

I recently attended a car show and was told by several Chevy enthusiasts that GM was working on a hybrid Camaro based on the Volt power design. What a cool idea. Has anyone else heard of this and if so, when will it hit the market?

Yep, someone in my town has a blue one. Looks like a GTO from the front...

Guys,

This post looks very fishy. Not because of the 1st post. The "What a cool idea." text hints to me this was created by a bot aka phishing. Also, "Chevy enthusiasts" said this? They can say anything. So if you're the bot developer, make the text more convincing. If not, my bad.

But I'll play along anyway.

They won't release one anytime soon. Reasons?
1) Demand. Hybrid demand is very low. The Prius owns more than 50% of the market. They're trying to get the other hybrids sold!

2) Marketing. The mustang/camaro line cater to a specific affordable/performance car market. The Hybrid would look down upon in that market. Even if it increased torque to 380 lb-ft. That market likes to modify cars and would be fearful to do hybrids.

3) BangforTheBuck. The camaro V6 already gets 30 mpg. Having a V6 hybrid would probably just get 35 hwy and the city would go up by 1 mpg. The price wouldn't be justified.

Legitimately
I wanted an G8 ST badly. I'm not happy they gave up on it. But a Chevy El camino is still possible due to the the caprice coming back but I'm not holding my breath. Very limited market like the Chevy SS which did horrible. If you noticed the current lineup, they are trying not to make any mistakes anymore with models.

I had a G8, it was the first 'nice' car I ever owned. Aside from the same paint issues the camaro has they were great cars. I'm really glad Chevy is bringing it back as the SS and I hope they market it properly this time. Every car mag loved the G8 but GM only sold ~30k each year it was available.

My thoughts are that since Holden is already making the car there are very little development costs in selling it here. So be a little more optimistic about an el camino : )

I often wondered why they haven't brought back the El Camino, given how popular the truck/suv market is. Maybe I just answered my own question, why canibalize sales of high-margin products trucks/suvs for the El Camino. .......

Anyways, a "hybrid Camaro", UGH. It would be more practical to have the Camaro tow the Volt behind it. If there was a true hybrid Camaro, you thought many complained about the weight of a Camaro now, ha, add another 500lbs of batteries...
