Cam Question!

Hey I may be looking into getting cams for my SS. How much do they run? What kind of HP gains do they give on average? Also are they hard to install?

Thanks

like black10 said around $600-$900 for the kit, gains will vary depending on your choice of cam. what are your goals so you can choose the right cam for you

Also, they only have one cam. No dual or quad overhead cam on the american V8 & V6 in the Camaro's.

if its an L99 you will have to do dod & vvt delete unless you go with a vvt cam but expect about a $3500.00 bill when your done on the L99.

I hope that's a LS3 conversion bill...

Its for LS3. I'm just looking for something less than $800 that gives some good numbers. I'm new to this kind of stuff so I don't know exactly know what to look for haha. i just love the idle sound when it has cams

dont' forget the tune for the car once you put the new cam in. if your buying one that's at least 300 for the tuner. not including a custom "cam" tune.

If you are going to do a cam there are a few things to take into consideration to have longevity, dependability and drivability.

I had my cam changed and this is kind of a list of things that I had to buy for this install:

Cam
Dual Valve Springs
Trunion Kit
Hardened Push Rods.

It was also suggested that I put a Melling High Volume Oil Pump in when I did this. I did and amd gals since there is a TSB out for the oil pumps now.

I installed headers, hf cats, cam, cai, and the above items when this was done, plus new plugs, oil change and a couple of other things like dyno tuned, underdrive pulley etc...

It cost me around 4000.00 maybe a little less for everything parts and labor which is not too bad. I increased from about 360 rwhp to about 450 rwhp and you can tell a big difference.

what kind of numbers are you looking to get? me personally i would go as big as can and still be streatable. no matter what cam you go with you are gonna be spending about the same amount of money
