Mojave Magnum/Mile, Oct 12-13 (2013)
Just FYI, registration is now open for the October 12-13 Mojave Magnum event.
Mojave airport, main runway, your choice of 1 or 1.5 mile form a standing start, one car at a time, speed trap at the end. Nice and safe. Prices are high at $499 for 2 days or $289 for your choice of Saturday or Sunday, they are limiting to 120 cars per day to ensure everyone gets enough runs. www.mojavemile.com I'm signed up already, time to see what new top speed I can hit. Well, the slots available are filling up fast, Saturday is over half full and Sunday is at about 50 cars. They only allow 120 cars per day to make sure everyone gets their fill of runs.
So far it looks like there's only 1 Camaro signed up vs 7 mustangs & 4 challegers, you gonna let that happen? Just trying to stir stuff up It's all good fun, there are tons of Corvettes and even a TT toyota Supra, and a few Subaru and BMWs. And then some exotics like a pair of Nissan GTRs, a Ferarri F430, 3 Ford GTs, and an Audi R8... Also about half the entrant vehicles are motorcycles ( I still think they're crazy to attempt the speeds they get, but normal people think I'm crazy to want to peg my speedo, so whatever.) This tends to be like a functional car show, and last I checked there was no admission price if you just want to hang out and spectate, just sign a few waivers to get onto the airfield where you can park among the competitors. Anyway if anyone does decide to go, make sure you have a tune that turns off the speed limiter, otherwise you'll be stuck at ONLY 155. (the first time I went I hit the speed limiter on the first run, that was supposed to be a license qualification run... I went fast enough to have my speed license upgraded, but it didn't matter :( |

I've got my own number in mind for the 1-mile length, it may be optimistic though, since I'm driving a car that has the aerodynamics of a brick, LOL! I've only hit 162.5 so far, but I've thrown a few more ponies into the mix since last time. I see there's now a dodge viper in the mix, at least 1 nascar style stock car, and also a 96 camaro entered into "auto 3", so I'm betting on big power there. |

Yah 6th gear is kinda out of the question. I've been able to do 160+ before. Thinking about it now 185 in a mile is no joke. Might need a little NOS for help. LOL

You'll have the 1.5 mile option at the event as well, you get to choose the 1 or 1.5 everytime.
You have a rollbar yet? They require that to go over 175. and Nitrous is certainly an option... although I think they only allow dual power adders in the "Auto 3" class, which means even more safety equipment. Check through the rule book and verify you have all the safety equipment covered to go the speed you want to. |

So you need a roll bar if you want to go over 175mph?

Yes, for the most part. I'll attach the tech charts below for the car & driver safety. There is one loophole, if your car is totally stock (no tune/performance mods) and a premium or "halo" version (like a ZL1 in the camaro world or a GT500 in the mustang world) you could run it in "showroom stock exotic" class up to 200 depending on tires, I know there has been at least 1 corvette Z06 that has run that class, along with nissan GTRs and then your typical Italian and German supercars.
the full list or rules are here: http://www.mojavemile.com/index.php?...d=13&Itemid=13 Last edited by danzcool; 07-24-2013 at 09:29 PM. |

It's been on my list of things to do for a few years... the finances, safety, and car readiness have always been out of sync though, maybe next spring, the finances and car readiness aren't quite there for this next one. I've really got a lot to do for Mojave and I'm in a bit of a holding pattern right now getting the last round of power paid off along with the Mojave entry fee, should be able to start up again after the 1st of the month.
