How Bad Is Borla ATAK Catback Drone?
Like the title says, how bad is the Interior Drone with the Borla Atak Catback?, and does the drone diminish the sound on the exterior as well?
I ask because I've listened to tons of exhaust videos, and I want something real aggressive, and I think ATAK is where it is at for me, and should hold me until I can buy a set of LT ARH. Any performance to be gained with ATAK? I haven't seen any Dynos from Borla so it makes me wonder. I have the L99. Thanks -Steven |

You're not gonna feel anything from a Cat Back as far as power.
Coming from someone who hates loud obnoxious cars, the Borla ATAK is awesome. I was skeptical about purchasing anything exhaust wise for my Camaro just because there's not really any gains, and too loud makes the car not fun. From what I understand, the ATAK is the loudest cat back out there, and to me it's almost not loud enough. I love to hear this car, and the ATAK tone is perfect. Roll the windows down and you CAN hear it a little better, but it can be easily drowned in a couple clicks of the radio knob.

the the atak is one of the best/ loudest cat back out there .... i got corsa and thats also one of the loudest out there and there is zero drone with corsa ... but like what soundwave said at first i liked the sound of my corsa, but then i needed louder...

I have the L99 and the S type...great tone, but if you are getting cat back and the ATAK I suggest you tune out AFM. Drone isn't terrible...AFM will make you wanna kill yourself with an aftermarket system.

I have the ATAK with ARH long tube headers, and really expected it to be louder than it is. But that's ok. As far as drone goes I really don't notice much drone inside the car. I hear the exhaust note, because it's louder, but I don't hear much resonance ( so called drone sound). The wife and I can still have a normal conversation at highway speeds. At wide open throttle it sounds awesome!
Don't quote me on this, but the performance gain, I believe was stated by Borla to be between 3% and 7% increase with the catback system. I still have yet to see an actual dyno chart of this claim though.

You guys pretty much sold me on the ATAK, thank you! I'll look into Corsa a little more, but I think ATAK is it.

It sounds good my problem with the muffler delete is that it is real lound when shifting normally from 1st 2nd and 3rd from a light. Does the Atak and headers sound normal or not to loud with normal driving I do not want to get pulled over for the exhaust and with the way my car is now I will I do not want to get an exhaust and still have the problem.

I listened to my wife pull away from the house one day and was surprised at how quiet she kept it. The volume can be held to a minimum no problem. I have driven by a few cops without any quick look ups or stares from them. sounds fine for normal driving, it is not obnoxious at normal speeds if that is what you are worried about.

You will be fine if you tune it out...ATAK sounds a lil more raspy than S type, but a great tone nonetheless... All I am saying is prepare yourself to drop money on a tune...but wait and see if AFM bothers you or not. I will tune once I get headers since it will most likely require it anyways...
However, do some research if you want headers...I have seen two separate threads on this site about how the ATAK with headers is too loud for the owner.

I have less drone with my Kooks LT/ATAK system then I did with just a muffler delete. I do have AFM tuned out. I was worried about the ATAK but its sweet, loud when you want it, quiet coming home around the block.
Caution though - I do get worse gas mileage. But thats because I drive around with the windows down and revin it up! LOL |

You all sold me on the Atak I am having it installed Saturday along with a MGW Short Shifter it is going to be a good day
On a side note is the Borla Atak a new exhaust for the SS? I noticed a lot of threads asking questions about it in the last week that is how I found out about it I love this Forum I never would have known to listen to exhaust clips or anything like that it made for a much more informed decision.
