Stupid Road Workers

So I drove on some crazy fun highways today and some road workers where working on the roads and they had one of those large tar machines and a huge cloud of tar shot into the air for some reason above the highway onto all of the cars heading past it...long story short...my Camaro is covered in tiny droplets of the black disgusting tar...what the hell do I do...will regular car washing take this out??? Is my paint going to be damage in any way? The tar cloud was a very fine grey black mist when it happened.

Did you get info on that road crew? Pretty sure your not the only pissed off driver...

Did you try taking a hose immediately? Hope it's not the hot kind, where possibility of paint damage. Sorry man... hope it turns into nothing.

I could not get to a hose in time unfortunetly as I was literally in the middle of nowhere in terms of closeness to home or water. I could not get their info either as traffic was flowing pretty heavy - no place to stop or turn around for miles - at the time and it would be almost impossible to prove who what and why it happened. It would have just turned into a huge pointing circle of not me.

Ya I feel bad for people who maybe did not notice this happen... I noticed it immedietly as at every fill up I inspect the car for any signs of damage. It seems to have dried pretty instantly when hitting my car - so here is hoping it was not hot when it hit...tomorrow I am going to do a full wash on the entire car and really go gently over it...I am hoping to God it comes off and does not damage the car - worse comes to worse maybe I can file with my insurance company...and they show mercy..

YEP, as mlee mentioned, get some BUG and TAR remover, wipe down the entire car....THEN wash it very good. and it wouldn't hurt to put a coat of wax on it too, as I bet the Bug and Tar remover will pretty much strip any you had off.

They are doing road construction in Sarasota every day, so at least 3 days a week I am laying on the ground cleaning tar from the underside lip on both side of my camaro. I have to do the underside part of front bumper also.

Turtle wax bug and tar remover takes it right off.

Wash the car first, then wipe it down with a microfiber cloth soaked in mineral spirits. Bug and tar remover is too expensive. Wax afterwards, good as new.

WD-40 will take every bit of tar off your car with ease! And it wont mess the paint up. Afterwards wash your car

A bug and tar remover will work. However, depending on how hot the tar is, it may leave a mark in the clear coat, you'll need to clay and polish it to remove it all. I had that happen to the old genesis coupe once and that took care of the tar.

I've had my own share of bad luck with wonderful road construction a month or so ago, in which concrete was thrown at my car and took a huge chunk of paint right out of the wheel. Had to have the wheel replaced.

go to home depot or lowes and pick up lacquer thinner, i detail cars and used this on a white pickup truck used for taring, and it got everything off just fine
