Camaro 2010 Issues

Camaro owners,

I purchased my 2010 camaro 2ss on March 18, 2010. The car had a little over 2000 miles, I love my vehicle, but less than two weeks after purchasing it I began to have clutch problems. I've owned 8 chevy vehicles and several sports cars that were manual. This Camaro made noises when depressing the clutch, is hard shifting into third, and is slipping in 2nd and 3rd.

On 4/5/10 I brought my car in for service. After inspecting my vehicle, I was told the the clutch was bad. They advised me that if the car had been abused, that the warranty wouldn't cover it. I was hardly worried about that, since I hadn't even done a whole shot with it yet.

4/6/10 Chevy drove the Camaro and advised me that there was no problem at all with the clutch. They also told me that this was the 1st manual 2010 Camaro that they had seen.

4/6/10 12:10pm I called GM customer support. I told them that the clutch needed to be opened up and inspected because I was certain there was a problem. She was able to get the dealer to open the clutch assembly, and found a bad clutch disc with a groove in it, and an uneven pressure plate with bad springs from the factory. No abuse was found and the vehicle was repaired under warranty.

4/9/10 I picked up the car, and the clutch felt perfect. All the issues were gone, and the clutch was firm grabbing at the low end of the pedal. It was smooth shifting into third, and the noise was gone.

4/12/10 The vehicle started to show the same issues as before, after driving the car only 150 miles, I called GM and advised them of the problem, and they told me to bring it in on 4/19/10

4/19/10 dropped the vehicle off, and was told later that there was air in the line. They performed a vacuum bleeding procedure.

4/20/10 Picked up my vehicle from the dealer and found two scratches. One on the drivers side front rim, and one by the drivers side door handle.

4/24/10 I called GM to advise them that the car had been scratched and it was shifting hard into third again, and now the clutch was grabbing at the extreme high end of the pedal making noises when it did.

4/26/10 I called the dealer and explained the issues.

4/27/10 I spoke with GM at 6:45pm in regards to the Camaro having more issues than when I first had it fixed. He told me that I had to bring it back to to the same dealer since they repaired it. He also sent my file to a district specialist for my area.

4/27/10 I called GM and asked if the entire clutch could be replaced since something keeps causing parts to fail and the repairs to it only last about a hundred miles or so. GM said if anything else goes wrong with it, that they'll try to get that done

5/4/10 dropped the car off at the dealer, and was advised that the vacuum bleeding that they performed on 4/20 had not gotten the air out of the system, and now the Throughout bearing actuator cylinder had to be replaced.

5/5/10 Picked up the car again and took it straight home about 4 miles. The car felt worse then ever. It was making a loud noise at low speeds when depressing the clutch, and was now slightly grinding going into third. It was now slipping in second as well.

5/5/10 I spoke with the district specialist and told her how bad the car was driving. I reminded her this was the third time the car had been in for the same problem.

5/6/10 I called a different Chevy dealer and asked them to take a look at the car. I drove about a mile on the highway. The car burst into smoke at 60mph. I pulled off on the median and called roadside assistance to have it towed to the dealer. THE CAR WAS ON THE SHOULDER IN A HUGE CLOUD OF SMOKE!!!!

5/6 The tow truck driver while hooking up the car tried to throw steal hooks under the car, and threw the hooks into the front valence of the car causing another big scratch. After service had taken a look at the car, they found that the line going to the trans cooler was not fastened from the dealer that worked on the car. I lost all of my trans fluid on the highway. When the tech pulled the plug, NO TRANS FLUID CAME OUT.

The dealer where the car was at now, told me that I had to go back to who fixed it because it was there fault. Before leaving I asked to speak with the tech that re-connected the trans line to ask if he thought any damage was done to the trans. He said he couldn't be sure without pulling it apart, but that it's a good bet that something in the trans was damaged.

5/6 12:07pm I called the tech that had last worked on my car about the trans line. His exact comment was THOSE LINES COME OFF ALL THE TIME, IT'S NO BIG DEAL!!

I called the district specialist from GM to explain what had just happened on the highway. She told me to bring the car back to the original dealer that messed up the car. I said no way after all that they have done to my Camaro that only had 3,000 miles. I also said that at this point the entire clutch should be replaced and possibly the trans depending on damage.

She called me later that afternoon to tell me that she had recieved approval to replace the entire clutch assemly and to inspect the trans if I brought it back to the original dealer that performed the work, so I told her that I would.

5/10 GM's district specialist called to tell me that the dealer didn"t think checking the trans was warranted and that there is nothing wrong with the clutch. A couple hours later GM called to tell me that the master cylinder was found to be bad and that they were going to replace that now. However they still weren't going to inspect the trans, or open up the clutch.

5/12 After 2 days of pleading with GM to have the trans and clutch inspected. They authorized the dealer to tear apart the trans to look for any damage.

5/14 The dealer told me that the car was driving like a dream, and it was ready for pick up. When I asked the tech what they had found, they told me that nothing was wrong and it didn't need to be inspected.

5/17 I had a long talk with corporate GM, and finally they forced the dealer to take a look at the clutch and trans.

5/18 The dealer called me to let me know that the flywheel in the clutch was now bad and needed to be replaced. Also fourth gear had teeth missing and needed to be replaced as well.

I'm sorry if this post is really jumbled, but there's alot of information.

Please keep in mind that I love the new Camaro. It's not even 2months old to me, and not even a year from the factory. I've had over 17 spinal surgeries and this was the one thing I wanted to do for myself after all of the surgeries. I spent all of my savings on this car, and now my dream car is turning into a nightmare!!!

Thank you for listening

Sincerly,

Wow..and im supposed to pick mine up in about 45 minutes. I have been reading everyone's issues with oil consumption, clutch issues, and other things and im starting to wonder is the enjoyment of the car itself, worth all of the issues that have been found??

Wow... that dealer sucks. If it has any more problems, instead of asking them to fix it... I'd be asking for a new car.

That's quite a story... I hope things work out for you. I usually don't buy a first model year car but I did this time. The only issue I have so far, is a noisy transmission.

Any car will have problems, specaily for the first year of a totaly new model. It just sound that the dealer techs were a bunch of idiots. That list could of been a whole lot shorter if they did every thing right the first time and took pride in it.

You wouldn't have this problem if you had an auto.

Although this is my first post, please do not think that I am bashing the Camaro. Nonetheless,

On July 3, 1980, I got my first car, a brand new 1980 Z28 from Empire Chevrolet in Brooklyn. By the time I got it home, it had thrown its alternator belt. Thereafter, I had a host of electircal problems. Oh, and one fine day, after having it serviced, the tech forgot to tighten the front passenger side lug nuts. How exciting when the wheel snapped off during a -thankfully slow-turn.

In 1982, I bought the then new Z28. It too had a host of electircal problems. And, on yet another fine day in the Battery Tunnel, the clutch linkage bar simply snapped in two. Thereafter, the t-tops leaked and squeaked, and the dashboard rattled.

I was quite happy when that car was stolen in 1985. But the I bought an S-10 Blazer. Which was a comnplete pile of crap.

In 1988, I finally bought a Ford Bronco, which I traded in on a 1989 mustang convertible and I have never looked back. I now have a 2011 Mustang GT on order.

I really like the new Camaro, and I was willing to wait for the convertible. But, after all is said and done, I knew I could never again trust GM, which had peddled so much crap on us. And now it appears that they are at it again. Between the quality control and the Bozo dealers, it is no wonder that they went bankrupt.
Sad, but they brought it on themselves.
