Steering wheel

First off I like the steering wheel and find it very comfortable. That being said, is anyone else getting blisters or callouses from it? I've gotten 2 big callouses on my left palm. One by the ring finger and one by the pinky. Yesterday I got a blister that popped right by the callous by my ring finger. Before the smartasses comment, Im a righty. Lol

You must have the most tender set of hands ever! Maybe you need to check with a doctor, I have seen a child on TV whose skin would come off if touched too firmly. Good luck.

Well since I've noticed it I have made sure I have a more relaxed grip and I'm not hotrodding it around much now that I've had it awhile so no need for white knuckles. Must just be the way my hand sits on the wheel.

After years of working sheetmetal on planes my hands are still pretty rough so I don't think that would be it

It's actually very commonplace for people to hold on too tight to the steering wheel, partly due to supporting their arms weight with the steering wheel. It almost takes a concious effort to NOT do this for the average person.

From a racing perspective--I was always taught to keep my shoulders up to maintain zero pressure from "sagging arms" on the steering wheel/column. Additonally this will help keep the grip from being too tight all the time. Granted you will have to "grip" the steering wheel during manuvers of course...just don't have to "grip" it during cruising.

When you work out--try working the front delts using high reps and low-medium weight. That should help as a supplemental thing. Also sitting correctly in the car (meaning not leaning back) is something most people do wrong as well. The best posture is one where you're sitting straight up, and if your arms are extended straight out -- you want your wrists to be able to rest on the top of the wheel. This is the optimum spacing and posture for driving.

Poor Jamie, hope the situation gets better...to me, this is the most comfortable steering wheel I've ever used, but I do have to consciously try to NOT hold on too tightly...

LMFAO!!

Anyway, I can't beleive you're actually getting callouses especially because you work with sheetmetal. I work in a warehouse and my palms are like sandpaper. How much you drive in a day?
