Washing Car with Well Water

Hey everyone, I tried searching but no luck...

I am looking into buying a home which is in a neighborhood with a community well. Will using well water to wash my camaro be an issue? I intend to get a water softener for all indoor plumbing, but I can save significantly on cost if I don't put exterior plumbing through the softener (sprinkler system will use a lot of water). Will well water hurt my car!??

You'll def have to dry the car very well due to the minerals or you're gonna have water spots.

get something like this for the final rinse ... http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...ortby=ourPicks

Or just plumb one faucet that you will use for washing the car through the softener.

This is a good idea. I guess there would just be the cost of additional piping and labor? I will look into this more.

That's what I did when I built my house 21 years ago. Added one in the garage for soft water.

I live out in the country and I can't wash my car at my house because I don't have enough of the proper equipment (microfibers and stuff) to do so. I will leave not just water spots, but mineral GLOBS all over my car when I get finished. And when the water dries, it makes the paint look hazy. So I don't clean my car... like... hardly ever. I take it through the self serve car wash and spray it off with the pressure soap and washer and though not clean, makes it look a little better.

I use a well, but I wash my car inside the garage, so that makes things a little easier on me. If I washed it outside then I would never get the whole car dried before spots started appearing.

I have well water and I honestly have never had an issue with hard water or anything. I was my car outside all the time throughout the summer and no water spots. I use a leaf blower to dry and follow it up with a quick wipe down of detail spray.

I wash my car in the US (non-Camaro) with well water. I have noticed that there are a lot of spots on the paint, especially on the hood and trunk, but I don't know if that is due to the well water or to the age of the car. I wasn't concerned until I read the other comments actually, now I may attribute that to the water I have been using! I use good car wash soap, clay bar and wax it once a year too. And I only have it out of storage one month of the year. However, my family's other car (1995 Honda) which is older and less cared for has excellent paint still. Wow, that wasn't helpful at all, was it? Sorry.

I had well water at my dads and I never used it. I had water spots that would never come out without machine buffing! I tried using all kinds of car wash soaps and nothing worked, if the sun was out and hot... By the time I got done washing water was already drying and staining the car!!!! Lucky that was my 4th gen! Lol

Dry your car off when you are done washing it and you shouldn't have a problem.
