HARD WATER SPOTS?

How in earth can I get all of these hard water spots off my car? Made the mistake of washing my car at home and the water started drying. When that would happen, I would just spray more water on it, and think nothing of it. Well now they are terrible, and everywhere. I now know that our water is so hard that it made my windows opaque. I couldn't see through them, and I had to basically pour vinegar on them to get the spots off.

It's like that all over my car.. Help?

polishing the car didn't help either. Big mistake on my part. Probably swirled the paint all up. CRAP.

Clay bar. Can also use a diluted vinegar mixture.

Will a clay bar remove this? I thought it was to get dirt and grime out of your clear coat.

The water spots aren't water when you think about it, they are what was in the water, minerals etc. Clay bar should remove them fairly easily especially if they are fresh and you haven't let them become water etching. I'd start out with a clay bar and see the results. If it isn't helping there are other options such as Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover or light machine polishing.

Well I know it is the magnesium and calcium in the water. I don't have supplies for clay barring, and probably wont be able to get them until Tuesday at the EARLIEST. What is water etching? How does that happen?

It's when the magnesium and calcium starts eating away at the clear coat. This takes time though, but the longer you let them sit there with the combination of sun and heat will expedite the process. You have to polish the clear coat to get rid of water etching.

EDIT: You can also pick-up a clay bar kit at walmart, such as Mother's Clay Bar. No need to order it online from the detailing sites.

Try the vinegar and water mixture then, 50% each. Or any detail spray you may have.

Use on a small test spot first before using on a large area.

funny you say so, I actually made a thread earlier about how to make my own detailing spray... read somewhere I could mix liquid polish and purified water, so I did, but it did nothing, as did someone in my thread say so.

I'm not saying a vinegar/water mixture is a substitute for detail spray, two wildly different things, but both may remove the water spots.
