Slight mistake with touch up paint. Need advice.

I bought touch up paint from the dealer. These damn doors are so big and my garage was so small that I hit the door against the side of the garage. It was light but enough to put a few wear marks on the edge of the door.

I dabbed just a touch of paint on and it worked. However, I got some of the paint on the side of the door, too. It's tiny but obviously I notice it and it bugs me. Can I get some fine sandpaper to remove it or should I just live with it?

I should have used the pen part of the touch up paint. Live and learn.

Thanks for any help.

If you just did it, I'd try very carefully wiping off the offending drip with paint thinner before it sets.

No it was like a week ago. I can live with it if necessary. I certainly don't want to damage the factory paint.

Did you put clear over it? because there are thinners out there that can remove the touch up paint since touch up paint is usually a different composition. Apparently clear is tougher I dunno. I'm not sure what the difference is but one is enamel and factory is urethane. I think. Hopefully someone can add to this cause I'm not 100% but when I bought my car someone added some bad touch paint to the door and when I had a different panel repainted, my paint guy had some thinner that took the touch up right off without affecting the paint underneath.

I know something exists for this situation, but you'll have to ask a paint guy for the specifics. Hopefully that helps

Oh gosh no sandpaper! Just get a good polish and use some elbow grease. No problem

Dave, post a photo. I don't know if I have time this weekend but I'm just outside of Boston down rte. 138

Lacquer thinner will easily remove the unwanted touch up without removing the factory paint or clear. Just go easy. You need just a little and rub lightly.

Brake Cleaner will work just fine, I've even have used brake cleaner to smooth out touch up paint.

Langka system will get rid of that lickety-split. It's also good to have since ti makes for decent touch up jobs.

Here's a suggestion.
I stopped by the local home improvement store and bout a pack of 4 large rubber 1/2" thick 24"x24" tiles that are meant to go on the floor and interlock with each other, and instead of putting them on the floor, I fastened them to the side of the garage so the door hits the rubber tiles if I open the door too far.
